  • Lifting Heavy vs. Lifting Smart: What Real Women Need in Menopause with Coach Jennifer Kirsch
    Dec 13 2024

Jennifer Kirsch, a personal trainer and nutrition coach with nearly 30 years of experience, shares her training experience which reconciles the difference between research-backed fitness advice and the realities of working with real women in peri- and post-menopause.

While well known menopause medical experts and academics advocate for heavy lifting to maintain bone density and muscle mass, Coach Jennifer highlights the challenges and risks many women face when applying these protocols in real life.

    We cover:

    • The reality of working with beginners who lack the body awareness and tension control needed for heavy lifting.
    • How “moderate” lifting (8–12 reps at 60–75% of 1RM) can be a safer, more effective starting point for building strength and confidence.
    • Practical advice for women feeling intimidated by the idea of lifting weights.

This episode bridges the gap between clinical research and lived experience, offering a refreshing perspective for women navigating strength training during midlife.

Jennifer Kirsch is a personal trainer and nutrition coach specializing in helping women 50+ build strength, confidence, and consistency through simple, effective workouts. With nearly 30 years of experience, she’s passionate about empowering women to feel their best at every stage of life.

  • Rethinking everything I was taught as a baby trainer: Remove Tribalism from Fitness
    Dec 3 2024

In this podcast episode I am sharing how I am re-thinking a lot of concepts I was taught in my baby trainer years, from the "best" way to swing kettlebells, to the "wrong" way to squat with barbells.

Over the past 12 years, I've learned there is no BEST single way to do anything just as there is no best degree to get in college, best job path, best way to date.

Every school of teaching has something to pass us and there is no need to tribalize learning.

  • Is there anything wrong with an Orange Theory or F45 type workout?
    Nov 12 2024

The other day, I overheard a trainer talking to another trainer about a member they knew left the gym to go to a new fitness studio. The member's new gym was a place similar to an F45 and Orange Theory. The trainers was essentially talking shit about the new fitness studio the member had switched over to.

The shit talking they were doing is something I, too, have done in the past.

Many trainers will critique these types of fitness studios with the argument that there isn't thoughtful programming which would get a person results, and there is no progressive overload which is necessary to get stronger. In fact the words we use in the industry to describe places like these: fitness entertainment.

I have changed my tune. In this episode, I share why.
