I might be a grandmother. But I’m not some sweet, harmless old lady who people can push around.
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince.
They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by.
I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.
Now he wants his daughters back.
Over my dead body.
I finally have a family of my own. And nobody is going to take it away from me.

twists and turns
the narration was very annoying I would prefer just a straightforward nourishing without role play

The grandmother free with audible
The grandmother was only 65 but behaved like she was in her late 70s or 80s. The clichéd characters were insulting to everyone especially if you believe the police are that dim witted. The language was stilted and unnatural and although the twist was interesting the ending was just silly. But it was good for a freebie.

Well what can I say, I was enjoying it until the last few chapters until the girls had their hair cut off then it got very confusing

Rare for me to give a perfect score
I absolutely loved this book. The characters were so well drawn with a nice bit of dark humour sprinkled through. Kept me engaged from start to finish. Great twists and turns. Will now look out for this author.
The narrators were perfect as well, for this book probably amongst the best I’ve ever come across. Kudos to all.

Average but worth a listen
The story builds and leads one to expect a crescendo of a surprise ending which ultimately doesn't happen. Disappointing end to an anticipation of an exciting and unexpected finish.

Great narration
Interesting story which kept my attention till the end. Great to have different voices reading the book as I felt it brought the characters to life,
