Good Follow Up

I absolutely adored the first book in this series and, while I didn't love this one quite as much, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Having read a bunch of seriously varying quality fantasy and sci-fi in between, I am very sure that, although I didn't feel the magic as strongly, the writing, characters, authorial voice, and performances are all of extremely high calibre and I thoroughly look forward to finishing the trilogy and reading more of this author.

Like the first book this had excellent narration, best i have heard, and slow but solid story writing. Lots of fun.

out of frying pan and into the fire

This is book two but really it's part 2. This Trilogy could easily be a 1000 page book.

Great build with the storyline

the interwoven storylines are great. this book builds on the first in all the best ways. this is one of my favourite book series, and this book has set us up perfectly for the (absolutely epic) finale to the trilogy.

A great story with great characters and world-building

This is a great fantasy romp through a strange world with great pacing, constant intrigue and unpredictable twists. The characters are interesting and layered and the twists and turns are satisfying.

This book does NOT suffer from book 2 syndrome.

Wow! What a book! I bought the trilogy of Chasing Graves when they were first published, but for one reason or another, never got round to finishing them. When I saw that they were narrated by Moira Quirk and Samuel Roukin I leapt at the chance to buy and listen.

This book is a direct continuation of book 1 Chasing Graves. Caltro has been kidnapped from his mistress Horix, and has found that he is hot property. Tor Temsa (as he is now) needs Caltro to open safes and vaults and doesn't rest until Caltro is in his possession.

Nilith continues her steady march with the body (and shade) of her dead husband towards Araxis. She also has her own share of bad luck in the form of bandits, who follow her across the desert. And the Empress in Waiting, Nilith and her dead husbands daughter, continues her machinations in the city from her lofty Perch in the Cloudpeircer.

Ben Galley goes from strength to strength in his writing, showing that he is versatile in both Grim dark and writing of a lighter nature. I eagerly await Ben's next books, to see what direction he heads in.
