About this listen

Mary Jekyll and the Athena Club foil a plot to unseat the Queen and race to save one of their own in this electrifying conclusion to the Locus Award winning trilogy that began with The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter.

Life’s always an adventure for the Athena Club...especially when one of their own has been kidnapped! After their thrilling European escapades rescuing Lucina van Helsing, Mary Jekyll, and her friends return home to discover that their friend and kitchen maid Alice has vanished—and so has their friend and employer Sherlock Holmes!

As they race to find Alice and bring her home safely, they discover that Alice and Sherlock’s kidnapping are only one small part of a plot that threatens Queen Victoria, and the very future of the British Empire. Can Mary, Diana, Beatrice, Catherine, and Justine save their friends—and the Empire?

In the final volume of the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a tour de force of reclaiming the narrative, executed with impressive wit and insight” in a starred review, the women of the Athena Club will embrace their monstrous pasts to create their own destinies.©2019 Theodora Goss (P)2019 Simon & Schuster Audio

Give this a go, I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did!

I have loved listening to the adventures of the Athena Club. This is another thrilling tale with brilliant characterization from the reader, I have no idea how she changes so quickly between them all!

I just wish there was a fourth book!

Holy sh*t

so good, combined lots of my favourite tropes and style into a wonderful feminist package.

Most enjoyable

I like the 3 books but this is the one I enjoyed the most.
I like how the author adds characters from other stories such as Sherlock Holmes (and others I do not wish to spoil) seamless into the story.
I love the concept of the Athena club that the author has going on.
Charming stories

Satisfying end to the series!

Very enjoyable romp as always, narrator does a great job with the multiple voices, even if pronunciation is a bit odd sometimes! (People going to Corn Wall kept making us laugh!)

More Please

This is the latest of the books and as good as the 1st 2.... I do hope there will be more.

Again the introduction of more characters whilst sticking with the old guard.

Really entertaining. (all though like Mary I did feel the need to give Diane a slap once or twice!)

Sad the trilogy is over

This is the third book in the series and whilst in my opinion, it’s not quite as good as the first two, I was sad when it ended. Although I don’t know how historically accurate all of the fictional characters are (did Sherlock Holmes and count Dracula exist in the same time zone) for example. Not having read any Sherlock Holmes or count Dracula I can’t say but it was interesting the way all characters were brought together in the story as well as the other two books. A very novel idea. If there was another Athena club book I would purchase it. Very well narrated and I really liked the way the author created another layer of dialogue between the fictional author of the book whilst she was recording the adventures of the Athena club.

I love this series but..

..this is the lesser of the three books. So many characters that many don’t get much to do in the story. Also the villain is rather easily defeated, reminded me of the Mummy film (probably deliberate). Anyway great series and I still enjoyed this book, hopefully we will get to see more adventures of the Athena Club in the future.
