Summary
Meet the neighbours from hell, in the gripping thriller that reviewers and readers describe as "fast-paced", "chilling", and "impossible to put down".
When Jamie and Kirsty move into their first home together, they are full of optimism. The future, in which they plan to get married and start a family, is bright. The other residents of their building seem friendly too, including the Newtons, a married couple who welcome them to the building with open arms.
But then strange things start to happen. Dead rats are left on their doorstep. They hear disturbing noises, and much worse, in the night. After Jamie's best friend is injured in a horrific accident, Jamie and Kirsty find themselves targeted by a campaign of terror.
As they are driven to the edge of despair, Jamie vows to fight back—but he has no idea what he is really up against....
The Magpies is a gripping psychological thriller in which the monsters are not vampires or demons but the people who live next door. It is a nightmare that could happen to anyone.

Unputdownable.
I finished this in 2 days I couldn’t stop listening .
Basically it’s about how things can get out of hand quickly without even knowing and you can get driven almost to madness but it’s also about being stubborn and stupid. Nasty neighbours don’t always show their face and hide behind a facade. We all have the means to want to get revenge but we don’t all do it …. we could lose everything
Enjoyed the narrator .
Jamie needed to grow up and chose some stupid routes .

I was a little disappointed...
Would you try another book written by Mark Edwards or narrated by Elliot Hill?
Definitely Edwards, he's one of my favourite authors. Hill?? Possibly.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I don't do spoilers anyway! I work really hard to avoid them! Well, I thought he was an idiot, doing what he did to his loved ones, for a house? So I think it was deserved, if I'm honest. I would have done the same as she did.
What does Elliot Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Voice tone, and suspense. You actually feel like you're listening to it all happen.
Do you think The Magpies needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. I don't think it's one of those that need a sequel, because it all gets tied up in the one book.
Any additional comments?
I didn't think it was that bad at first, I thought they were over reacting to some of the stuff. I can't get my head around Paul later on though. He's very strange. I also thought Jamie was a total moron, an idiot, and unbelievably stupid and sexist. I wanted to shake him. Silly man. I have to be honest, given than this was an Edwards book, I almost expected a little worse than we actually got. Maybe that's just me. Good read though. I have his other books, I'm going to start another very soon.

Not what I expected
I got this book on a whim after scrolling through looking for a new read.
It wasn’t the kind of story I thought it’d be but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I’d recommend it to anyone who would stick with it.
I still have a lot of questions but there are two more books…onto the next one !

*Neighbours!!!*
This was supposed to be the best thing ever. Jamie & Kirsty buy their first home at a bargain price and it is exactly what they wanted. Life seemed like the stuff of dreams. They hold a house party inviting all the neighbours all accept their invitation apart from one couple. That night a fire engine turns up and it’s a hoax but they think strange but let it go.
They finally meet the elusive couple downstairs Chris and Lucy, things seem a bit off about them. But Jamie and Kirsty continue living life. Well little do they know, their lives are about to be forever changed and not for the best.
They open their front door to find a unwelcome rodent on more than one occasion. Deliveries start turning up, more hoax calls and that’s for starters.
Then things ramp up and it soon becomes far from the dream they thought. As the pressure from the neighbours from hell or worse keep barraging Jamie and Kirsty. One wants to leave the other wants to fight…… that’s where I will leave it, absolutely terrifying
