Not the Best
I found this rather slow and dreary. It went on far too long and I lost interest.

Probably a better read...
I struggled with the first book but thought I'd give the second book the benefit of another try. The narrator seem stilted and disjointed in places. His attempt at an Irish accent had me cringing! If you cant do an accent.... just dont! I found the story hard to follow at times because of the disjointed narration, ends of sentences were spoken with too long a pause between the penultimate and final word! I guess its horses for courses but I'll be avoiding any further books with this narrator. The book itself seems an alright read, although there seems to be big gaps in the story line, no continuity between certain elements of the story. Some story elements seemed unnecessary. I also found some of the descriptive parts of the story long winded and unnecessary, they didn't add to the story! It felt a bit like an English literature project that was a few 100 words too short, so it had been bulked out to make the grade. I most likely wont bother with the third book... shame, as the main character, McKinnon, had promise.

Interesting storyline
An interesting idea combining animal rights with people caught up in a murder investigation and personal problems.

Would be better read than listened to
This one was a bit of a disappointment, the narration was stilted; emphasis on odd parts, no change of pace to match calm or active parts of the story. The plot itself was fine but the main protagonist wasn’t particularly prominent in solving the case or proactive at all. The whole thing was a bit flat as a result. I read this as I enjoyed the first novel, hopefully a subsequent one will revive my interest, I’ll give it a chance.

This worked for me
I liked this and the introduction of the science worked. I found the narration worked for me, I had got used to it in the first book. This is another author and narrator I have discovered through the plus catalogue which works well for me.
