Summary
Edinburgh has Rebus.
The Highlands have Logan.
Now Yorkshire has Grimm....
Welcome to Wensleydale, where the cheese is famous, the scenery beautiful, and the locals have murder on their minds....
Detective Chief Inspector Harry Grimm is forced to take leave from Bristol’s Major Investigations Team when his boss, tired of Harry chasing the ghost of his murderous father, sends him north on secondment.
Used to city life and high stress, Harry fears his life will now be spent handing out speeding tickets, finding lost sheep, and directing tourists. But when a local teenager runs away, Harry finds himself pulled into an investigation much worse than anyone could have ever expected.
The nicer the place, the darker the secrets. Wensleydale is beautiful, everyone is friendly and welcoming, and people just don’t get murdered...do they?
A classic fish-out-of-water crime mystery set in the stunning and evocative scenery of Wensleydale in North Yorkshire.
Grimm Up North is the terrific debut crime novel from award-winning author David J. Gatward. Perfect for fans of L. J. Ross, J. D. Kirk, Simon McCleave, Alex Smith, J. M. Dalgliesh, J. E. Mayhew, and J. R. Ellis.

Yes yes yes( in a meg Ryan voice)
I've just finished books 1 and 2 and cant wait for book 3.
being unable to read because of my health audio books are my lifeline but the need a good narrator and Dave couldn't of picked a better one, Aubrey was Awesome.
The only complaint I have about the books are they are too short. I keep looking how long is left and feeling low.
I love the nostalgia in them and the obvious love of the area.
the characters are great fun and the storylines are just grim enough
looking forward to the 3rd book( I didn't see any more so hope your writing more.
thank you Dave and Aubrey for making life more enjoyable

Gripping
Hooked from the middle of the first chapter. DCI Grimm is one of those characters who you immediately like or hate. It’s obvious he is a good detective, as he breaks most of the‘rules’ because he actually has a heart for people and he wants to uphold the law. My second time listening to this book and I realised that I had missed quite a bit during my first listen. Well worth listening to twice, if not three times or more

Good
This was a fun listen. Some annoying procedural bits that were missing but mostly a good story. Interesting characters.

Growing on me but too short
I enjoyed the first book in this series but at only 7 hours long, half the length of many other unabridged titles, it's not great value. I'll read a couple more until the next Stuart Macbride is out in April (the last I read was over 16 hours). Shane as it's always great to find an already written series you like.

Not what I ever expected!
This was not at all what I expected - yet another detective story. Grimm is unlike other detectives, being deep and human. I look forward to what makes him tick in the next book

Excellent
The two main characters in the story -Grimm and the landscape- are made to come alive. Enough is said of the other characters to make you speculate about their backstory and how they will interact with Grimm in the future. A really good listen. Looking forward to hearing more

From Bristol to the Dales
Really enjoyed this book, Grimm is a great character and I loved the humour within the story. Aubrey Parsons is a great narrator and his ability to change accents is superb. Look forward to listening to more of Grimms's adventures.

A new Detective to follow
A tale of a southerner being transplanted from busy Bristol to rural Yorkshire.
Lots of interesting quirks- cake with cheese stands out! ( or is that normal?)
Some cliches pop up but they add to the story.
I will definitely be looking for book 2!

Paints a poetic picture of Yorkshire
Enjoyable story starting with great humour of the requisite grumpy police officer with a troubled past sent to new pastures and shown as fish out of water (to mix metaphors) in new environs . The rather predictable ensues and satisfying solution to the mystery enhanced with the authors obvious love of the setting. Diverting entertainment but not yet Golden Dagger quality.
