About this listen

A dead cop. A damaged detective. A copycat killer on the loose.

When the chief suspect in the notorious "peekaboo cop killer" case blew himself up, almost taking lead investigator DCI Duncan Bone with him, the psychologically damaged detective thought his days on the force were over. But, when another PC is abducted and murdered in the same deranged peekaboo fashion, Bone is persuaded to return to lead the new investigation. But, as Bone and his team hunt a copycat killer, and with time running out before yet another cop is slain, Bone’s terrifying past returns to tear open old wounds and push him to very edge of the abyss.

Can DCI Bone end the killing before the killing ends him?-

Set among the dramatic hills and glens of Scotland's Campsie Fells, Dark Is the Grave is the first in a series of edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers that will keep you guessing right up to the nail-biting, heart-stopping climax. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J. D. Kirk, Val McDermid, and Stuart MacBride.

Meh… Rebus wannabe.

The story itself was OK, although even the prologue didn’t explain what had become of “the baddie”. Otherwise the story itself was OK and kept moving at a good pace. My main issue with it was the overly florid writing style… It demonstrated a lack of finesse by trying too hard to be writerly - Too much chomping, scoffing or slurping of gelatinous confectionery when ‘stuffed a whole pack of Rolos into his mouth’ would have sufficed. It was OK - Definitely not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but not equal to the best by a long way… Forget ‘must try harder’, rather ‘don’t try so hard next time’ instead.

Absolutely brilliant!!! A tad gory, but not too much, it is a page turner. Where, and when do we get book 2?

The suspense

First time I’ve heard of this Scottish author.Glad I’ve found him . Loved the style, and laughed out loud at some of the humour. Will definitely listen to more.

Great Scottish murder mystery

This is a great serial killer audio and I loved the narration from Steve Worsley as well. I look forward to the next DCI Bones novel!

As a copycat killer taunts DCI Bones, he struggles to separate reality from the nightmares that haunt him since he hunted down the Peek A Boo killer. Is the Peek A Boo killer back from the grave, or has a sadistic murderer hunting down police officers taken up where Peek A Boo left off?

My new favourite author

This is the first book I read by TG Reid and it will not be the last! I just love the way he describes everything so that you feel as if you are actually in the scene…the story is so vivid. Ok there are quite a few gory scenes but the story is quick paced and interesting. By the way, the narrator Steve Worsley is excellent.

An exciting new Scottish series

A great start to a new series with a clever storyline. DCI Bone is suffering from PTSD following a near death experience at the hands of the Peek a Boo killer. When a copy cat killer starts to contact him about recent murders Bone is forced to return to work too soon and the subsequent toll on his mental health is very well depicted. An exciting new Scottish thriller series, I am really looking forward to book 2. The audible narration is excellent and really brings the story to life.

Needs editing!

There are some glaring errors in the book which should have been picked up by a good editor. Can't be more specific without spoiling! Performance not great. Needs more variation in tone when reading "he said" "she said" etc. Gets on your nerves after a very short time.

Worth a read

I did find this book a trifle gory, but overall it was interesting to find a new author, the story was good and the perpetrator was a surprise to me.
