About this listen

It is 1864 when Lizzie Martin takes up the post of companion to a wealthy widow who is also a slum landlord. Victorian murder mystery

I enjoyed this book very much. It’s set in Victorian times with a new police force and the building of St Pancras station.

Victorian era crime

I really enjoyed this. I listen to a lot of Victorian era stuff and thought this better than most. I thought the characters were good, with an interesting back story, that set them up nicely for more books to come. The narrators were both very good, it was quite nice to follow the story from both Lizzie Martin's and Det. Ben Ross' point of view. I will be definitely listening to the next in the series.

Very enjoyable

I read few Ann Granger's novels. Lizzie and Ben Ross are my favourite characters. And I'm glad that it is the first book of the serie. the interview with the writer at the end, it's an extra.

Cracking story, cracking performances

I do love an historical mystery novel, and this is pretty much perfection. Beautifully written, packed with historical detail, and excellently performed. It's a gem.
