About this listen
A man crushing on his brother’s best friend. Another man who’s afraid to love. When all is laid bare, can love triumph over fear?
Axel Sandstrom
I’m the lead guitar player in a punk-pop band and I get hit on a lot. But I’ve got a big problem—a crush on my older brother’s best friend, Remy.
Of course, he’s straight.
So instead of having him, I’ve become the king of hookups. I’m used to hiding my feelings behind teasing and innuendo. But that only drives him further away from me.
When Remy decides to go back to school, my brother asks me to tutor him. After spending time alone with him, it’s pretty obvious he’s not as straight as he says he is.
Remy Hall
Axel makes me feel things. Tingly things.
But he’s also obnoxious and my best friend’s younger brother.
I should stay away, except that I need him to tutor me. During our tutoring sessions it’s impossible for me to deny my attraction to him.
But the bigger issue, is my all-consuming fear of being close to people.
After the deaths of my younger brother and my dad, I don't want to get close to anyone. But Axel makes me want to try.
He might have the conviction to yank me back to him, kicking and screaming, as I’m about to fall off the edge.
Come Closer to Me is the second book in the Rock U series and is part of the Mesa Boys universe. This novel features bisexual awakening, hurt/comfort, and a rocker in love with his brother’s best friend. It guarantees an HEA and has no cliffhangers. It features a bad boy who goes after what he wants, and a man who’s hiding his attraction to men and shies away from love. Each book features a different couple and can be listened to as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Fabulous narration for a great story
I am really coming to love Finnley's narration having now listened to them give voice to book one and two of this series. It gives individuality and personality to each character as well as getting across all of the emotions in each scene. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them!
I loved book one of this series and was looking forward to Axel's story after getting to know him a little bit. His is a brother's best friend, hurt/comfort, bisexual awakening story. Remy is the best friend and roommate of Leo, Axel's older brother, and has been avoiding Axel for a while, not sure of the feelings he gets around the younger man and if he enjoys the constant teasing or not.
Remy has some trauma in his past (mentioned at the beginning of the book in the content/trigger warnings) that has him extremely hesitant to make a connection with anyone for fear of losing them. Axel just happens to be stubborn enough, and has cared about Remy for far too long, to take no for an answer when he finds out there is a chance for something between them. There is quite a dramatic moment towards the end of the book that brings fears to life but ultimately results in the couple growing even closer.
The two men together have quite a sweet relationship, and then it turns very heated when it comes to anything in the bedroom (well, and kitchen, bathroom and living room). There's also a new found appreciation for silky underwear. I also enjoy the friendship and love shared between the friends and bandmates. Caleb, Silas, Devin, Axel, Milo and Gabe are a bit like a found family in how they support each other which becomes especially important later on in the book. Remy and Leo have been best friends for so long, and now roommates, that it's funny to hear them act a little bit like an old married couple. They clearly have a very strong friendship and know they are there for each other. I love how supportive Leo is of everything when it comes to Remy and Axel, he even tried to push them together in the beginning to help get Axel to tutor Remy for his college course.
What I did find was that, for me, Axel seemed a bit pushy when it came to things happening with Remy i.e telling people they're together, giving Remy time to decide what he wants, even after saying he can take the time he needs. He can, on occasion act slightly immature but Remy is quick to take action and show or tell him what he wants or meant.
Overall, it's another good book in the Rock U series and I look forward to Caleb's story next.

brilliant listen
I thought book 1 was going to take some beating but book 2, Come Closer To Me, is just as good ,if not better.
The Narration is excellent and brings so much life to the two characters.
I can't wait to listen to book 3.

Best Friend’s Brother done well
Best Friend’s Brother done well (an audio review)
I’m enjoying this series by Christie Gordon. It has just the right amount of angst, humor, and feelz. I also enjoy the trope of best friend’s brother. Mixed in with a bit of unrequited love.
Axel has a problem. He’s in love with his brother’s best friend. They’ve all known each other since childhood – Remy and Leo used to let Axel hang out and, as he matured, Axel discovered both that he liked guys and that he really liked Remy. Problem? Remy’s straight and not interested in his best friend’s little brother.
Leo asks Axel to tutor Remy in a class Remy’s already failed once. Axel steps up and does it. Happily. Then…things develop into more. Remy feels like he needs to hide the relationship from everyone which bothers Axel. Everything gets resolved eventually, though. There’s more drama, for sure, much as there was in the first book. That also got resolved and I got my HEA. I will say I found way less pop-punk band in this book than the previous. I did get to see Devin and Brandon, though, so that made my heart happy.
Finnley Cole is doing a great job narrating this series and I’m thoroughly enjoying his performances. Can’t wait for the next one.

MM - College/Rock romance
After a good first book in this series, we get another book just as good.
We meet Axel, the lead guitar player and Remy, who lusts over Axel. Life would be good apart from Axel Remy's best friend and younger brother, who he has now offered to tutor.
I found it to be well-written and thoroughly enjoyable.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book/audio to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel.
The narration was good. Finnley Cole's clear and concise delivery made the listening experience enjoyable. I did speed up the narration to 1.15 on Audible, but this is normal for me.

Beautiful and heartwarming
"Come closer to me" is the second book in the Rock U series but you can read it as a standalone. In this book we follow Axel who has been in love with Remy, his older brother's best friend, for years. When Remy needs a tutor for one if his college classes Axel offers to help him and he finds out that his crush is not as straight as he thought.
I'm so happy Axel got his guy and found his happily ever after. I was rooting for him since book one. They were really sweet together. I loved how Axel teased Remy and Remy was adorable when he was flustered. His bi awakening story was very beautifully written and realistic.
It was a wonderful contemporary romance. It warmed my heart and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series. I'm really loving the found family theme.
I had a fantastic time listening the audiobook, I loved how the narrator voiced Axel and Remy and brought their beautiful love story to life.

Hot as fire! 🔥🔥🔥
Come Closer to Me is a good coming out, older-brother's-best-friend story. It's full of hot times and Axel is constantly teasing and flirting with Remy who he thinks is straight. There's an OMG scene near the end that I didn't see coming but maybe I should have?
This is the second book in the series and the second book I've read by Christie Gordon. It's also the second book I've listened to performed by Finnley Cole. The narrator's voice was pleasant to listen to and the pacing was good. The only problem I had was keeping track of which character was speaking. The book is first person POV with the chapters alternating between characters. I couldn't tell any difference in the voices for each character which caused me to have to restart a chapter at times.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
