About this listen
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For 12 years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

I must be twisted.. because I loved it this
The material is dark, the story well written and the characters complex. Rarely do i find myself routing and sympathizing with the bad guy. For this and the uniqueness of this book, I have to give it 5 stars and admit i couldn't put it down. I have to purchase the next one immediately.. house chores will just have to wait! If you're looking for something good and you're not afraid of dark content such as human trafficking, rape and child's abuse then give this book a go.. I dare you

Better than the book
What made the experience of listening to Captive in the Dark the most enjoyable?
The way it was narrated, having pitch and tone made the book feel more alive. I loved it, loved it, loved it.
What did you like best about this story?
I have read this book a number of times and each and every time it grips me in a different way and on a different level..listening to it just took it to another level again.
What about Emily Durante’s performance did you like?
The way she seemed to 'feel' what she was saying.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Love isn't always grown from kindness.

Just awful
I couldn't finish it. The story is savage leaving me feeling somewhat traumatised for the main character for a few days after reading. There is Stockholm syndrome then there is this book. For the people who like the book, I worry how they became so desensitised to such brutal situations.

Bad
Just bad in every way: the story, the writing, the characters. I don’t get how people could like this.

Drawn out & boring
What disappointed you about Captive in the Dark?
This tale is, in my opinion not very well written, I found I could not relate to the main characters (Olivia is like a whiny 12 year old & Caleb comes over like a total sleaze bag), there is simply too much of the same kind of thing happening throughout the story.
Has Captive in the Dark put you off other books in this genre?
No, I wouldn't say it has 'put me off' this kind of genre but I feel I won't be looking out for this kind of story in the future.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
In all honesty none of the scenes stood out.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Captive in the Dark?
Mainly the scenes which involve Olivia's 'training' which were neither believable or enjoyable.
Any additional comments?
The one saving grace of this story was Emily Durante's portrayal of Olivia (she has a lovely voice) and I would like to hear more of her narrations but overall I'm glad I only paid £4.99 for this story but I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.
