So many of these changes are simple and cost-effective, and go a long way in enhancing concentration and enthusiasm for school. • Cross-Cultural Parenting Insights with Elizabeth Newcamp
    Apr 23 2021

So much of rewilding is focused on questioning modern-day conventions, and reimagining life in ways that turn our assumptions upside down, allowing us to see things differently and live in ways that allow us to thrive. No where does this become more apparent then when we live within a different culture and are forced to examine our cultural assumptions on a daily basis.

In this episode, I interview Elizabeth Newcamp, co-host of the Slate podcast Mom and Dad are Fighting. Elizabeth shares her experience living three years in the Netherlands and how it deeply changed her as a parent. So much of discussing another culture involves examining our own, so this interview also centers on looking into our own cultural beliefs, particularly with regards to parenting. As a fellow homeschooling mom, Elizabeth also shares with us her homeschooling journey, and how it fundamentally changed based on her experiences abroad.

  • Cosleeping & Biologically Normal Infant Sleep with Marcella DeRosa
    Apr 1 2021

In this episode, Certified Baby Led Sleep & Well Being Specialist expert Marcella DeRosa and I dive deep into the world of cosleeping and biologically normal infant sleep. We share our experiences as both mothers in our nighttime parenting journey, as well as Marcella’s efforts to help parents make informed decisions when it comes to their babies’ needs.

So much of the advice we are given with regards to infant sleep is based on outdated cultural beliefs rather than on the biological norms of the infant-mother relationship. Through this conversation we hope to contribute to a topic that is so foundational to our well-being, not only for infants and young children, but for the rest of one’s life. A responsive mother-infant relationship is crucial in setting up a child for true independence, self-love, and positive relationships with others. It all starts at infancy, with a baby’s brain constantly rewiring in response to a mother’s loving touch and response.

Take a listen for an insightful conversation on the beginning of the human experience - infancy - and how a caregiver’s response (or lack thereof based on conventional advice) can be critical in establishing a well-adjusted child and future adult.

  • Primal, Ancestral Health with Mamoun Bennani
    Feb 10 2021

In this episode, I chat with fellow podcaster and holistic coach Mamoun Bennani on the topic of primal, ancestral health. We discuss his journey of looking back to find a healthier, happier life, and what were some of the factors that led him on this rewilding journey to begin with. Mamoun's coaching focuses on reintegrating ancestral diets that are particular to each individual and their ancestry, as well as a physical training approach that focuses on seven basic primal movement patterns that have been rarely practiced in our modern-day lives, but which are slowly being rediscovered and reincorporated. These movements include:

    - Squatting

    - Bending

    - Rotating

    - Pushing

    - Pulling

    - Gait

In this episode, I interview Canadian homeschooling mom and homesteader, Laura Martin on the timely topic of Unhurried Childhood. Within that enforced space of greater time and freedom from our typically busy schedules, many of us have seen our children thriving in a slower pace of life, despite social constraints. Listen in for some great insights from Laura on slowing things down a notch for our own sanity, and for the wellbeing of our children.

  • Risky Play with Jake Suitter
    Dec 16 2020

In this episode, stay-at-home father of two, Jake Suitter and I explore the many benefits of risky play to a child's development. Through his Instagram account, Jake often writes about risky play in today's childhood, as well as his own journey of stepping back to give his kids the space they need to develop their physical and mental acuities through play.

It is often telling of our society that we need to describe this type of play as "risky," when risk has been a natural element of play since time immemorable. We tend to be so risk-averse these days that we often shut down kids' natural inclinations to take risk.

But are we truly protecting them, or are we unintentionally doing more harm than good by keeping everything so safe for them all the time? These are some of the questions Jake and I discuss in this episode. Follow along for some really good insights from two parents, who like you, are trying their best to balance safety and play for our kids.

Jake can be reached on Instagram, through his handle @jakeandkids.
