• S2: E6- Lola Broomhall: Stoked on Life Beneath the Waves
    Sep 24 2024

If you were a little kid like me who dreamed of being a mermaid, then this episode is for you because today's guest is...you guessed it...an ACTUAL mermaid.

Lola Broomhall is a mermaid and free diver based on the Mornington Peninsula. When she's working you might see her practicing as a physiotherapist, breath worker or yoga and Pilates instructor, or running a wellbeing workshop. Outside of working she can seen frolicking on the back beaches or enjoying a coffee with friends. She is passionate about health, living in a holistic and balanced way, and in particular about connecting to and supporting the many wonderful and talented women in our community.

You'll find her at art exhibitions and poetry nights , ecstatic dance parties and cafes enjoying all the random pleasures life on the peninsula has to offer!

We talk about the power of choice, chasing your dreams, how she got into mermaiding and how you can too, her love of the ocean, breathwork, freediving, pushing your boundaries, dealing with fear, finding your people, and caring less about what others think.

Whether you’re a wanna be merperson or a committed landlubber, this episode asks (and kind of answers) some pretty big questions. It’s sure to get you thinking about what really lights you up and inspire you to take more chances so take a breath and dive in!

  • S2: E4- Mel Browne: Stoked on Unf*cking Our Finances and Creating Freedom
    May 20 2024

Today’s guest is on a mission to empower women to shift how they think about money and create freedom and choice.

Melissa Browne is the bestselling author of Unf*ck Your Finances, a socially awkward introvert who loves fashion, reading and puzzles. She also happens to be an ex-financial advisor and ex-accountant who went from having less than nothing in her 30s to becoming a multi-millionaire and having financial independence in her 40s.

This experience means Mel has the theory as a financial expert of more than 20 years but also the life experience. She deeply understands the shame that comes from not being at the age and stage you thought you should be and knows you can come back from that place to where you can have financial independence and choice. Because she did that herself and has helped thousands of women over the years achieve that too.

Today, Mel’s mission is to help women work towards choice through financial empowerment. The main way Mel does that is through her signature 8 week course, the My Financial Adulting Plan which has had more than 3,000 people through its doors in the last 3 years. She also works with corporates to create practical, sustainable financial well being strategies in their workplaces.

Mel wrote a fortnightly column for the Money Section in the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne’s The Age for seven years as well as being a regular contributor for CEO Magazine, Yahoo Finance and other publications. She makes regular TV and radio appearances including Triple J’s The Hack, the Today Show, Weekend Sunrise, Weekend Today, Sky Business and The Daily Edition. She has also been featured in or written articles for Cosmopolitan, Who, Vogue, Elle, The Collective, Harpers Bazaar, Rendezvous, Madison and more.

We talk about why finance is a feminist issue, the current crisis of violence against women and its connection to socio-economic disparities, dealing with money shame, uncovering your money story and why it’s critical, becoming financially literate (it’s a skill and you can learn!), money tips for ADHDers, working through overwhelm, finding support on your money journey, becoming a financial adult and more.

Mel has been a huge influence in my own money journey and this episode is full of insights, tips and questions to get you thinking about how your money can work for you and help you create a life you love. No matter where you are on your financial journey, it’s never too late to get started so grab a pen and notebook and dive in!

Mel has generously created a page for listeners of this episode where you can find free tools and resources to help you get started, as well as more information about how to work with her. Check it out here.

  • S2: E3- Reed Amber: Stoked on S*x, Pleasure and Reframing Shame
    Apr 22 2024

Y’all know my podcast has a perpetual E for Explicit rating (just like my listeners!) but today’s episode is one you might want to listen to in private. Partly because it contains some topics that may be confronting for some listeners…but also because it may leave you feeling some kind of way.

I have with me today Reed Amber Thomas-Litman. Reed is an established s*x educator, s*x worker and p*rn director speaking up about women’s, LGBTQ and s*x worker rights. She is the co-creator and host of the multi-award winning podcast ComeCurious and her YouTube channel.

She’s been in the TV/film/adult industry for over 10 years both behind and in front of the camera and she hosts monthly meets ups for influencers/content creators in the sexual wellness space and tickle parties twice a year.

She is a body, nudity and mental health anti-shamer and an amazing f*cking advocate for vulnerability and better communication.

We talk about s*x and s*x work, kink and fetishes and how they differ, communicating your desires to your partners, taking responsibility for your pleasure, ethical porn consumption, reality vs. fantasy and bridging the gap, having difficult conversations, reframing our relationship to shame and more.

I so enjoyed this conversation and it left me with a LOT to think about. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

  • S2: E2- Laura Mears-Reynolds: Stoked on Being ADHDAF, Activism and Advocacy
    Apr 8 2024

Buckle up buttercup because I have with me today the one- the ONLY- Laura Mears-Reynolds. Laura is a late diagnosed ADHD-er turned activist, the leader of the Leopard Print Army, and the co-founder and host of the WILDLY popular podcast ADHDAF where she shares stories, information, and resources for those seeking ADHD diagnosis and those who are already diagnosed.

She is also recently the founder of ADHDAF+, a charity for ADHD adults of marginalised genders at any stage of their ADHD discovery or diagnosis, in England, Scotland and Wales, along with the Make it Count Campaign and the Anti-Ableist ADHD Media Coalition.

We talk about ADHD and the f**kery of diagnosis both in the UK and here in Australia, finding joy and purpose in the chaos, how our diagnosis changed the way we view our lives, why we really need to stop calling it a “superpower” (it’s HARD y’all), fun jobs she’s had, fashion, relentless energy, the very boring, grown-up rewards of self-care, rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD), justice sensitivity, activism for ADHDers (and why it’s so challenging and amazing) and why she is hopeful for the future.

By the end of this episode my stomach hurt from laughing so hard that I never need to do an ab workout again (thanks Laura!). We screamed, we cried, we snort laughed (OK, that was maybe just me).

This is another episode of Sisters in Stoke that will remind you that if you’re part of #TeamTooMuch you’re not alone. In fact, you’re in some pretty rad company and we goin’ on a mother**king SAFARI.

    Mar 25 2024

    What's up motherf**kers?

We are kicking off Season 2 of Sisters in Stoke with a BANG with the incredible Lou Featherstone. Honestly, this episode is less interview and more a masterclass in what radical self-love looks like in action.

Lou Featherstone (aka @luinluland) is a 53 year old accidental middle aged influencer dedicated to growing old disgracefully. She is also a ray of fucking sunshine.

The Captain of The Self Love Revolution she is driven by a deep sense of purpose to connect humans and empower women to show up for themselves, shed shame, find their confidence and embrace the fear, and find their voice and power in midlife and through the menopause.
She’s a disruptor, conversation starter, permission giver, positivity rebel, a bad feminist and vibrator advocate.

We talk about cultivating courage, backing yourself, leaping before you're ready, self-love, masturbation, pleasure, trusting your gut, CrossFit, recovering from weed addiction, divorce, parenting, friendship, adventure, fashion, fitness, fun and MORE!

For anyone wondering "What's next?" and looking for that push to take the leap, this is the episode for you.

  • Episode 28: Danielle Gertner- Stoked on Inspiring You to Own Your Shit
    Nov 21 2023

When it comes to choosing guests for Sisters in Stoke, there are several ways I do it. Some are women who I know well, who are part of my life, are super rad and I want to celebrate them.

Some are women who have pursued a career path I find intriguing (stay tuned for volcanologists, rodeo riders and circus acrobats).

And some, like today’s guest, are women who inspire admiration and just enough envy (eww!) to show me that there is something I can learn from them.

Learn I did, and laughed, and cried. Today’s guest is real, raw, relatable and downright effervescent and this episode is jam packed with insights and take-aways that will help you Own Your Shit™.

Danielle Gertner is a Speaker, Emcee, Self-Mastery mentor, expert community builder, and podcast host who is on a mission to unlock the world’s radical confidence with her signature Own Your Shit™️method. She uses a unique blend of neurolinguistic programming, hypnosis, trauma-informed somatic work, story work, and primal play to help her clients make soul-shifting transformations.

With nearly 10 years of experience as a self-mastery mentor, habit and mindset expert, movement coach and professional hype woman, Danielle has guided hundreds of clients to achieve breakthroughs and unimagined levels of confidence in short periods. She helps them unleash a power they have never felt before so they can make the permanent shifts to living with compassion, clarity, pleasure, and play.

We talk about what it means to own your shit, radical responsibility, grief, compassion, the importance of curiosity, self-care, growth, community building, having fun, figuring out what lights you up, boundaries, movement, strength training, narratives, authenticity, heartbreak, joy, play and what it means to be messy, complex humans.

And an invitation: Danielle offers us a powerful practice to try as soon as you get the chance. Listen to the end to find out what it is!
