• Wise Man’s Restraint (Daily Devotional)
    Jan 23 2025
Shalom, it’s a joy to join you once again, as we look into God’s word on how to deal with anger. In your anger, what do you do? How do we deal with anger? We look at some of the instructions that God gives us in scripture. Yesterday, we looked at not being hasty because when we are hasty, we are acting foolish. Today, we are going to look a little more in detail about what a wise man’s restraint is. Today’s scripture, Proverbs chapter 29, verse 11 reads, ‘A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.’ This verse provides a stark contrast between a wise person and a fool. This verse contrasts the importance of self-control and the detrimental effects of uncontrolled anger. It describes the one who vents his anger and he is called as a fool. So, giving fulling vent to one’s anger means they require an immediate release and that in itself can be foolish. A fool is someone who impulsively reacts to anger, letting it pour out without any filter and this behavior often causes a lot of harm. Another thing that a fool does would be that this uncontrolled release often escalates conflicts and it creates an environment of hostility and tension and a fool also has a lack of discernment. They are driven by emotions and do not give a thoughtful consideration of what could be the possible consequences. But look at the contrast of a wise person, he exercises self-control, choosing to manage their emotions and responses and this discipline reflects a maturity, a state of deep understanding of the impact of what their emotions can do for the other person. A wise person, instead of reacting impulsively considers the situation and chooses what to say, how to react carefully thus bringing about peace. By keeping their anger in check, they set a positive example for others. It fosters a loving and respectful interaction. By choosing to manage our anger wisely, we are really showing forth God’s wisdom, who God is. Let us strive to be wise in our responses, keeping our emotions in check and allowing the Lord to guide our actions so that we can be like the wise man who restrains his anger. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that you have taught us this contrast of a wise and a foolish man. We pray that we will take the wisdom, we will stand in patience even as we deal with our situations. Help us to restrain ourselves when we may want to act foolishly. We pray you will give us the wisdom to be wise, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. • Be Not Hasty (Daily Devotional)
    Jan 22 2025
Shalom, it’s a delight to be here with you, as we study God’s word through this series of Living Supernaturally. We have been focusing on what the bible talks about a very common emotion of anger. Today, we are looking at how the bible talks about be not hasty. Ecclesiastes chapter 7, ever 9 reads, ‘Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools.’ This verse gives us a lot of insight into anger. It instructs us of not being hasty in anger. Some of the other versions that further warns us by not being provoked quickly in our spirit. So, when we are provoked, our immediate reaction is often to lash out and this hasty response leads to conflict and later leads to a lot of regret. But when we pause and take sometime to reflect, we allow wisdom to take on our actions. This verse talks about some of the consequences of being provoked or being quick to anger. The latter part of the verse even states that anger rests in the bosom of fools. So, if we allow anger to linger and rest within, it is stating that it is a foolish thing. So, who is a fool? A fool in the bible is often referred to someone who doesn’t have wisdom, who has no understanding and who has no discernment and fools are generally characterized by their impulsive behavior, their poor judgement and maybe even an inability to learn from past mistakes. This imagery suggests that when we hold on to anger, we are in a state of foolishness and we need wisdom. So, persistent anger clouds our judgement and leads us to making wrong decisions which could be quite foolish. The second thing it talks about is that anger rests in the bosom of fools. It suggests that those who harbor anger definitely do not act in wisdom. When anger rests or resides, it means it is being held on to allowing it to settle in their hearts to breathe and later to influence the actions and that is when actions are more likely to be impulsive and destructive. So, anger when it is unchecked becomes a cycle, it festers and impacts not just our relationship with others but even our relationship with God and breaking this cycle needs a conscious effort. In contrast, when we are not hasty, what are we doing? We act wisely, we recognize the harmful effect of anger and we seek to manage it constructively. By understanding and applying this verse, we can avoid the pitfalls of being hasty in anger and instead cultivate a heart that reflects the patience, the peace and the wisdom of God. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, you have taught us not to be foolish in the way we respond to anger. May we have your wisdom as we respond and react. May we step aside and keep quiet at times when we need to. Teach us to think, ponder and to really look into what you desire of us when we respond in situations. Thank you for teaching us, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Thank you for tuning in to Living Supernaturally, for more resources to strengthen your spiritual walk, please visit apcwo.org. • Righteousness Through Patience (Daily Devotional)
    Jan 21 2025
Shalom, it’s lovely to be here once again to share God’s word together and meditate on it. Through this week, we have been looking at nuggets of verses in the bible about how we can deal with our anger, what do you do in your anger? Today’s verse is taken from James chapter 1, verse 20, ‘for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.’ James chapter 1, verse 20 is reminding us that human anger doesn’t produce the righteousness that God wants to see in our lives. We see that righteousness is through patience. In other words, anger is not a legitimate way to promote God’s righteous purpose. If we are ill tempered or our anger is selfish, it doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. What does God’s righteousness involve? It involves living in a way that is pleasing to God, that is characterized by love and peace. When we allow our anger to control us, our actions and words often stray away from what God desires of us. Anger can often cloud our judgment and we sometimes don’t understand and know what we are doing and often we make decisions that we could regret later. As we saw, it damages relationships and it creates great barriers between people. So, how can we pursue patience? Patience is a virtue that counters anger. When we practice patience, we are allowing ourselves time to cool down, to reflect and then to respond in a way that honors God. Patience helps us align our actions with God’s righteousness rather than reacting impulsively. To produce the righteousness that God desires, we must strive to respond to anger in a way that aligns with the character of God. This involves patience, self-control and seeking peace. Instead of reacting in anger, we seek to understand and address whatever the root cause is of those emotions maybe. So, this verse reminds us to cautious with our anger; instead of letting it control us, we should seek to respond in a way that aligns with God’s righteousness through patience, understanding and forgiveness. When we do so, we reflet the righteousness that comes from God. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, in each of our situations, may we reflect your righteousness. May we be led to times of patience and kindness and peace. Give us the grace to do that in each one of our situations. We desire to honor you and follow you and the path of righteousness even in tense or difficult situations. Do hear our prayer, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. • Slow To Anger (Daily Devotional)
    Jan 20 2025
Shalom, it’s a joy to bring God’s word to you once again. Through this week, we have been looking at how we can handle anger by looking into God’s word. The verse for today in James chapter 1, verse 19 reads, ‘Let every an be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.’ This verse gives a wise counsel and a road map for how to manage our reactions that often can lead to anger. God’s word is always the best way and when we follow it, we are always blessed. What can we learn from today’s verse? There are two instructions that James gives us in this verse. It says, let every man be quick to hear and slow to speak and these are two instructions that will lead to a delayed anger. Being quick to hear or listen, it means that we are patient to hear in completion the other person’s side of the story. When we listen, we are acting in love and in respect. When we listen, we show others that their feelings and words really matter. It allows us to understand their perspective and helps us to respond with empathy. Maybe it is good for us to reflect on how we actually listen to others. Are we truly hearing them or are we preparing what we need to say next? So, this can be a way we can keep from becoming prematurely angry. The next thing that James says is slow to speak. Slow to speak is the opposite of quick to hear. We control what we speak and not saying anything and everything that may come to our minds. Our words have immense power, it can bless, it can bring life, it can encourage, there are so many things that our words can do and conversely, it can also do a lot of negative things. But being slow to speak is taking the time to think before we respond. It is choosing our words carefully and responding in a way that ensures and reflects the love and the patience of God. Let’s consider the impact of our words before we speak especially when we are angry or frustrated. The way we respond in frustrating situations really speaks a lot about how we showcase/ reflect God. James shares this wisdom so that we can honor God even in times of difficulty or when situations are tense. So, let’s learn to keep these instructions of how we can delay our anger. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for these instructions. Give us ears to listen and a mouth that sparingly speaks. Help us to use wisdom and restraint. We pray for your help in every situation that may lead us to conflict or frustration. Teach us how to deal with our anger, in Jesus’ name, Amen. • Let Go (Daily Devotional)
    Jan 19 2025
Shalom, we are happy to join you here once again as we look into God’s word. We started a series on looking at what do we do in our anger, what are the lessons we can learn from scripture? Scripture brings a lot of teaching on anger and one of the things that we are going to focus on today is to let go or to cease from anger. Psalm chapter 37, verse 8, ‘Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.’ The verse today emphasizes that when we allow anger and wrath to fester, it only causes harm. In other words, unchecked anger can lead to evil, fretting leads to evil. This is a reminder that an unchecked anger can disrupt our peace and lead us away from the righteous path that God intends for us. What does the verse emphasize? It says, cease from anger. In other words, it means let it go or let alone to slacken, weaken your anger. It simply means to let go. It means to make a conscious decision to stop continuing to allow that anger to stay in. This could involve letting go of the negative emotions that come as a result such as bitterness, resentment or even a desire for revenge. It is an intentional act of moving from those feelings. The verse also says to forsake wrath. Wrath is intense anger and it is often something that seeks revenge or seeks punishment, something as a payback. Turning away from wrath means rejecting these extreme reactions. Instead of allowing anger to escalate into wrath, we step back and respond with patience and understanding. The third thing it says is fretting. What does fretting involve? Excessive worrying and stewing over a situation that really builds upon and causes that anger. This verse tells us not to allow or dwell on the matter or allow it to consume our thoughts. Fretting generally intensifies anger and leads to a lot of negative outcomes. When we hold on to anger, it clouds our judgement on what we should do. So, ceasing from anger, forsaking wrath and not fretting involves trusting in the justice and in the timing of God. Instead of taking matters into our own hands or to seek revenge, we trust that God will handle the situation in His perfect wisdom and in His true righteousness. This trust allows us to let go of that anger and find our peace. By letting go, we are trusting God and as a result, we respond with grace and patience. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, teach us to let go, to forsake our wrath and to give up on fretting because we know that all justice and all righteousness is yours. Help us to truly depend on you even with these emotions and take on what you desire for us. May we be patient, kind and willing to pause. Thank you for being with us, in Jesus’ name, Amen. • Be Angry, But…
    Jan 18 2025
Shalom, it is a privilege to join you once again as we look into God’s word and meditate on some scripture for today. Through this series, we are going to be looking at how to deal with a very common emotion that we may all feel- our anger. What do we do in our anger? We look at the teaching that the bible has about how to handle our anger. Anger like any other emotion or feeling is something that is natural. Anger in itself is not sin but this emotion when it is unrestrained can lead very quickly to sin. Learning how to handle anger is a very important life skill. Many of us listening here today may actually struggle with how to manage and handle this emotion of anger and we may have experienced it in different degrees. We know that anger can break communication and it can break relationships. The sad part is, very often, we justify our anger instead of accepting responsibility for it. So, in today’s verse in Ephesians chapter 4, verses 26 to 27, it says, ‘Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.’ In this verse, we see that the bible doesn’t condemn being angry, instead, it guides us on how to channel it or handle it righteously. As we said, it is a natural emotion that all of us face and in this verse, it warns us against letting anger lead us to a place of sin. It gives us some ways on how we can be angry but handle it in a way that honors God. Let’s look at that. The first one says, do not sin meaning, you and I have to control our responses and our reactions when we are angry. Sometimes, when we deny a wrong, when we become quick tempered, when we rage, when we avenge some harm that we’ve suffered or we hold on to resentment or we react in an impulsive or harsh manner, anger becomes misused. Let’s take a moment to pause before we act or say anything. What else does this verse instruct us to do? It says, do not let the sun go down on your anger meaning that we should swiftly be able to resolve our anger. Prolonged anger can fester resentment and bitterness. So, it is important to seek reconciliation and peace as soon as possible. The third thing it teaches us is not to give an opportunity to the devil. We need to guard against the enemy. Unresolved anger is that which the enemy uses, the enemy gets a foothold in our lives, it opens the door to further temptation and sin. How do we apply this? The next time we see anger rising up, let’s take time to identify and acknowledge that we are feeling angry and this could be a result of anything we may have faced. Whatever the cause may be, let’s take a moment to pause and ask God for wisdom and patience to deal with the person. Let’s strive to resolve the issue. Let’s learn to deal with anger in the way God desires of it. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for this emotion that you have put into us. Thank you that you have taught us a way of how to handle it effectively and righteously. May we be careful and have wisdom to know that we do not let ourselves sin and may we have the wisdom to understand, to keep away from giving the enemy a foothold to work in. May we forgive and be willing to resolve as quickly as possible by your grace, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
