About this listen

When Inspector Shanti de Silva moves with his English wife, Jane, to his new post in the sleepy hill town of Nuala, he anticipates a more restful life than police work in the big city entails. However an arrogant plantation owner with a lonely wife, a crusading lawyer, and a death in suspicious circumstances present him with a riddle that he will need all his experience to solve.

Set on the exotic island of Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) in the 1930s, Trouble in Nuala is an entertaining and absorbing mystery spiced with humor and a colorful cast of characters.

Clever plot

A rather irritating reading sounding rather dull and bored. I think the story was OK rather than really clever. The period setting was only briefly described.

An interesting new murder mystery novel. Very good range of characters and the reader was excellent.

Easy listening

So glad I found this in thePlus catalogue.
Delightful .The descriptions of Ceylon as it was in 1930’s, conjured up a bygone era, some of it good and some not so good.
The narrator was excellent. He managed all the different accents brilliantly.
I have already downloaded the next two books, also on Plus,so free.

Very enjoyable!

A lovely gentle thriller with shades of Ms Christy.
It brought lovely memories of Ceylon and my time there. I loved the narrators portrayal of late Raj types, their customs and accents. Whodunnit was not much of a mystery, but it didn’t need to be. I’m a new convert to Leslie Wolfe’s work and look forward to more books.

A charming story beautifully narrated

This was a charming read, a gentle mystery that was beautifully narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies. I especially enjoyed the Da Silva's relationship. I'm off to download the next one.

Short book but a great story and brilliant narration

Short book but a great story and brilliant narration. The setting is very alive although possibly a little romantic about the time in question. Still, the characters grow and the feeling is that the book is one of a series.

Colonial Ceylon.

Light and refreshing. Easy listening, no gory descriptions for a murder mystery. Quite entertaining.

Old fashioned but entertaining

This felt like a book written 50 years ago - but it was a solid story well narrated.

Narrator & descriptions

Excellent narrator and descriptive passengers reminded me of Sri Lanka, a country I really love.
