Summary
Second Edition
Erik West is an ex-combat medic. He and his best friend, marine recon sniper Jimmy "Rugrat" Rodriguez, have been thrown into another world. They've become one of the "cursed". Now they have to figure out this fantasy world, where cultivation, skills, and abilities must be grown...or death awaits.
Ascension is just around the corner, whatever that means. But they'll need to master magic and temper their bodies to survive. In a world where your personal strength is your greatest value, Erik and Rugrat have to start from the bottom. But they've cut their teeth in conflicts all across Earth and honed their skills over years of training while creating a bond and upholding their honors and oaths.
It's not a question of if they are ready for the 10 realms, but instead are the 10 realms ready for them?

Very glad I gave this a chance.
I have seen this book recommended to me for a while but based on the Blurb it seemed pretty dull and uninteresting. It was only once I saw a friend of mine had read it and rated it well, did I decide to give it a go and I am very glad I did. It is a really good read.
+ Characters have depth.
+ Varied and interesting combat.
+ Continual character development.
+ You can tell Michael Chatfield had faith that this was going to be the start of a long series. That sort of confident relaxed overarching storyline is so hard to find.
+ Characters learn and adapt to situations with an organic thought process.
+ Neil Hellegers does a really good job brining these characters to life.
+ Variety of cultural inspirations incorporated.

Worth it!
It's a surprisingly goodbookwhit 2 americans in an eastern cultivation novel. I dont know what more you need to start it. There is battle, cultivation, base-building, comedy, serius choises and 2 streat-smart MC. Not your usual clueless foolish MC but 2 pro.

Loved the entire 12 book Series!
I have to begin by expressing my genuine love for the "Ten Realms" series, even though it isn't without its significant flaws. I write this review after immersing myself in the entirety of the 12-book series. The allure of these books was so captivating that I found myself engrossed, devouring each installment in rapid succession.
Strangely enough, the initial title "2 Week Curse" and its accompanying summary failed to capture my interest initially, causing me to hesitate. However, I'm immensely relieved that I overcame that initial sentiment and dove into the series. The core characters, their brotherly camaraderie, and the well-incorporated military context complemented the unfolding story very well.
While the writing style isn't stellar or on par with accomplished novelists like Joe Abercrombie, GRRM (insert who you like), it's important to acknowledge that it resides within the realm of the better works of its genre. These books often lack the polished storytelling one might find in dedicated novels but, as a web series in book form, they possess a distinct charm that's highly enjoyable.
Nonetheless, it's only fair to point out that as the series neared its conclusion, a sense of haste began to permeate the narrative. It's as if the storyline was being driven purely by deadlines and perhaps financial objectives. This sensation became particularly pronounced around the 6th and 7th realms, which were oddly divided into two books each, resulting in a series of very brief installments. This division often felt unnecessary, and the progression of the story failed to justify the splitting of these realms. From the 6th realm onwards, a noticeable shift occurred, and regrettably, it wasn't a favorable one.
However, I chose to extend the author the benefit of the doubt, understanding that various factors might have influenced these decisions. One can never truly know the underlying motivations that guide an author's choices.
In the end, I implore you not to let these concerns detract from what is, at its core, an outstanding series. Flaws and all, I found myself really enjoying this series and became invested in the duo of Erik and Rugrat.

Great listen.
Love the rational main characters, love the application of modern techniques to the new world. Oh, and as always, Neil Hellegers rocks.

there are a lot of problems with this book.
the book can't decide what it want to be, it feels a lot like somthing a child would write, not that it is too bad, but everyone is bad or good no middle, all the characters act like they are selfish or kind which doesn't really work, the main character is either weak or very strong, and act like everything is as it should be, when fucking magic starts to be a thing.

Great story, terrible narration.
It’s a real shame as there’s the frame of a really good story here, if this was read by Jeff Johns or another decent narrator this would have been amazing to listen to.
Instead I found myself losing track of the story due to the fact the the telling is so bland and monotonous.
