Summary

Who will be next? When the body of a local talent show winner is discovered on the eve of headlining Kilwinnoch’s annual Civic Week celebrations, it throws the festivities into chaos, and threatens to tear the close-knit community apart.

For DCI Bone, the death is personal. Days earlier, he’d received a call from the victim, warning that she was about to be killed. He’d dismissed it as a hoax. With threats of more to come, a town on edge, and a ruthless killer evading detection with ease, Bone knows from hard-worn experience that, in a case like this, one kill is never enough.

Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J.D. Kirk, Val McDermid and Stuart MacBride.

Gets better and better

I’m really enjoying this series, good plots, Steve Worsley’s narration is spot on as usual and I like the team banter.

Just keep getting better!

This is my 4th DCI Bone book and I enjoyed every word of it. The characters are really vivid, old friends by now, whose welfare and happiness are important. This is odd as I usually find the personal side of crime fiction intrusive, but not here. The characters are so rounded they are alive, the dialogue and banter as natural as my friends. The plot was substantial, plenty of twists and I didn’t see the denouement coming at all. The writing is smooth, insightful and lyrical. Loved it.

Gets better with Age

The series gets better and the only one I have not got is no:2, but no worries as each story can be read as a standalone although I will get no:2 eventually.
DCI Bone gets better with each audio, the author does a good plot and is well thought out and the rest of the team gets along nicely as always the narrator has done an excellent job although it's a Scottish Accent it is very clear, and as we all know a narrator can make or break a good book.
I really hope there will be another DCI Bone.

Good story could be better written

I like the mains thrust of the novels and the narrator does well but I constantly want to rewrite the actual literary content - too much “he said / she said”. The narrator does his best but the author needs to listen to some other novels and realise there are other ways to indicate who has been orating so it is not such a stop start book. Despite that enjoyable but with a few tweaks could be so much better for the reader.

Unputdownable!

Excellent plot and I love all the characters in it as they are so very real and it feels as if they are people you actually know. This forth book in the series was a lovely way to catch up on their personal lives as well as a very interesting investigation. I ‘read’ this book on audible and I really commend the narrator Steve Worsley for his excellent narration - he brings all the different characters to life and helped make this excellent book even more enjoyable.

Excellent book

Book 4 in the series and each one is a great listen, the narrator works so well, the dry humour, the darkness and the relationships between the characters just goes from strength to strength. A great book, a worthy 5 stars and just hoping book 5 isn't too far off .....

Fantastic as always

Whenever I see an audio book by TG Reid it has to be listened to immediately. This one was no different . Yes I am loving the back story re the relationship but the highlight was the crime itself and the ending wow. It really had the x factor but i did feel sorry. Can't say more due to spoilers. loved the provost.
