Summary

Tony Blackburn is probably one of the most recognisable disc jockeys working in Britain today, and is always busy doing what he does best: playing music to listeners. With Radio One celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Tony feels the time is right to commemorate his own anniversary and look back on the time he has spent in radio and the media, from the days he spent as a radio pirate to becoming the number one DJ in the UK for the best part of a decade.

You'll also hear about the stars he befriended, the rivalries in radio he endured, the friendships made and broken - all will be told in his candid style. Much as John Peel's book was a reflection of one style of DJing, so will this book be for Tony's unique brand of playing and enjoying music, much derided by some comedians, but still going strong and ever popular.

John Robins was right

Simply one of the greatest, jaw dropping, revelation filled, laugh a minute autobiographies ever written. With Noel popping up at the start as well this surpassed all my expectations. Tony was a very naughty boy 😉

Definitely one for fans of Alan Partridge!

Utterly and unintentionally hilarious, Tony Blackburn seems to have all the self-awareness of Partridge himself, with equal amounts of smug self-satisfaction and ignorance. He really is a complete twit. I've listened to this so many times, and find more joy and embarrassment each time!

My only criticism would be that it is abridged, and excludes some crackers from the full book, but it's so good to hear it read by Blackburn himself. I urge you to listen to this, then to buy the book to read all the delights missed from this recording.

Poptastical!

Very funny, extremely honest and incredibly entertaining! An informative insight to radio broadcasting, 70s celebrity pop culture and the highs and lows of stardom. I loved this book.

Unintentional Comedy Gold

Better than the recent Alan Partridge book "Nomad", Tony has written a masterpiece. Too
many quotable moments.

A classic

Very honest, funny and sometimes heartbreaking autobiography. Listened on repeat recovering from Covid and always discovered another gem. Highly recommended.
