About this listen

In Big Beacon, Norwich's favourite son and best broadcaster, Alan Partridge, triumphs against the odds. TWICE.

Using an innovative 'dual narrative' structure you sometimes see in films, Big Beacon tells the story of how Partridge heroically rebuilt his TV career, rising like a phoenix from the desolate wasteland of local radio to climb to the summit of Mount Primetime and regain the nationwide prominence his talent merits.

But then something quite unexpected and moving, because Big Beacon also tells the story of a selfless man, driven to restore an old lighthouse to its former glory, motivated by nothing more than respect for a quietly heroic old building that many take for granted, which some people think is a metaphor for Alan himself even though it's not really for them to say.*

Leaving his old life behind and relocating to a small coastal village in Kent, Alan battles through adversity, wins the hearts and minds of a suspicious community, and ultimately shows himself to be a quite wonderful man.

* The two strands will run in tandem, their narrative arcs mirroring each other to make the parallels between the two stories abundantly clear to the less able reader.

Superb

Thank you so much Steve Coogan and Gibbons brothers. Another fantastic book and performance.
The greatest, most consistent and enduring comedy character of our time. Perfect.

A ruddy good time!

Nothing wrong with the podcast format but this was a nice change of pace to hear Alan write in his unique prose. Very reminiscent Nomad and We need to talk about Alan. It’s a must for all partridge fans.

Best one yet!

Absolutely brilliant work by an absolute comedy genius! Steve Coogan AKA Sir Alan of Partridgeshire. Take a HUGE bow! Strongly recommend the audio version of this book with AP reading it to you rather than you reading it (in AP’s voice!) brilliant brilliant brilliant!!

Quality partridge. A laugh a line. Alan will never get old for me, and Coogan delivers every time. This audiobook is no different and is a must have for any Partridge fan! You will not regret it.

Back in the big time

An excellent outing for AP, highly enjoyable. It is tonally very different from the first two books, this iteration of Partridge is more similar to 'From The Oasthouse' Partridge. Less like the Partridge of Nomad and I Partridge. Maybe with a bit of Alpha Papa Partridge thrown in for good measure. As a great man once said - "Listen to this, it'll knock your socks off"

Big Boobies!! (nothing to do with this, made you look though!)

There’s a lot of split reviews for this & I’m not sure why, it’s typical Alan, no more no less. Made me laugh & for an owner of a large, unruly, dead dog, it even brought a tear to my eye. And for the reviewers who didn’t like the “thinly veiled politics”, it’s satire: where Alan was born & raised.

Jackanackanory - Best Partridge book yet

I've been loving the Oasthouse Podcasts but a longer form version of pure Partridge is music to mine ears! The Andy Gray impression and translation is a particular highlight!
