About this listen

Emma and Leo have been together forever, but their relationship seems to have lost its sparkle. When Leo turns up to Emma's 30th birthday dinner unforgivably late and extremely drunk, she can't help wishing for someone to wave a magic wand and turn Leo into a reliable and considerate boyfriend. Then Leo's path crosses with a decidedly unusual girl called Isobel, and as he falls under her spell, Emma sees him change before her very eyes. Soon she regrets wishing for a new Leo at all. If Emma's going to win Leo back, she'll need to do some changing of her own....

A bit of a silly story.

The characters are in their 30s and some of the most ridiculous people ever, 30 going on 13. If I ever hear the word flip again, I'll flip myself! Some funny bits but definitely not one I'll listen to again or recommend.

Ok but nowhere near as good as she normally writes

Didn't like the story at all. Totally far fetched. Usually love her books but it was really poor and a bit boring to be honest.

Fairy rubbish

This book was awful. There was one section that was very funny but the rest was all mythical fairy nonsense. I like Carole Matthews a lot but she had a shocker here.

Hmm...

Still a little undecided as to if this story is perfect easy listening or just plain odd although the premise of the story is quite sweet and unlike any other Carol Mathews book I have read or listened to. The main male protagonist Leo is likeable after a few chapters but I never did warm to Emma and in the end rather wished that the story ended a different way (I will not give a spoiler away though). It wasn’t particularly predicable however one of the characters (the most *magical*) could have been written better and at times I had to rewind the story as I wasn’t sure if I had missed hearing parts or the story had just skipped forward in general. The best I can say is that it is not a sleazy or salacious tale which makes a pleasant change these days!...although for stories with a ‘magical twist’ you would be better off purchasing one of Christina Jones ‘Mad Villages’ series as the ‘magic’ in those books translates much better.

Not aged well, and even then the storyline - MEH

This book has not aged well. As for the the relationship between Emma and Leo, maybe not toxic but definitely not healthy. Emma, floats from wanting Leo to hating him, to wanting him to change and then being unable to function without him. She goes from stalking to ignoring, it was hard to keep up

Leo, the embodiment of privilege is having insurmountable amount of sex with a fairy. Who wants a child and then has the child but returns to fairy land, whilst pregnant. So now Leo is having a baby, he will never see but will be “a cloud or whisper in the wind” Of course he has decided Emma doesn’t need to know this.

Lard, has a bad relationship with food and can now eat as much mars bars as he can because of a spell cast on him
Reading this I understand why we have inherited this terrible relationships with food and our bodies.

The book served as a reminder of how far we have come as a people!
I finished, but rolled my eyes the whole way.
