About this listen

Over 75 percent of older adults have at least one chronic health condition. Close to 50 percent have at least two. Would you like to stay out of those statistics? If so, then you need to keep reading....

According to Duke University's School of Medicine researchers, people start losing lean muscle and bone density at just 30 years of age. By age 50, your strength, balance, and endurance have already begun to wane.

It can be a scary thought to consider what it really means to get older—but don't be afraid. While the effects of aging are real and measurable, there is also significant evidence that they can be controlled, and even reversed, with one simple practice: regular strength and conditioning exercises.

If you've been looking for guidance to help you start or hone your personal fitness journey, you've come to the right place! In this audiobook and accompanying PDF, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • How to develop a balanced, holistic at-home exercise program at any skill level
  • Scientific explanations of the processes of aging so you can understand the why behind the changes you've been noticing
  • Essential reasons why exercise and good nutrition is critical to aging well
  • Key benefits of strength and conditioning training as well as the importance of mindset and goal when motivation wanes

Great Book.

Excellent for the elderly as well as anybody who is rebuilding their strength or healing physically. Also maybe helpful for persons who have had negative emotional or mental experiences in the past about fitness, overtraining, and other similar topics. And are working to recover their physical strength. Even though I have a fair bit of physical discomfort on a daily basis, I am still able to complete my strengthening regimen. If you feel the need to make adjustments, you are free to switch between the warm-up exercises, the fundamental exercises, and the intermediate exercises depending on how your body responds to each one on a given day.

It allows me to relax and not stress about what I am capable of or not capable of doing.Definitely beneficial exercises and not overworking; modular aspects of practise that you can build on; ignore the 'aspirational' routines, and simply do the things!

A Reality Check

As someone who is already in her fifth decade of life, I know I need the information in this audiobook. The data presented is scary, shocking really but I realize this information is necessary for us to understand the importance and urgency of incorporating exercise into our largely sedimentary life.

My work requires long hours of sitting and this book reminds me of the dangers of sitting for long hours without intermittent movement. It was beautiful to see that the exercises presented in Chapter 8 are not very strenuous, indeed I found them fairly easy to execute. The book is a wake-up call but it is simultaneously very inspiring and gives me reason to hope. Thank you for pointing out that it's never too late and even small movements will make a difference.

I didn't want this book, but wow is it what I need

This book is so thorough yet easy to understand. It isn't just workouts. It is about the hows and whys of our bodies and what we need to do to keep them working. I have to admit I have not been good at physical working out but this book has motivated me to get moving His workouts are simple, well explained exercises and he gives us choices to use whichever exercises in that category are available. Now that I have finished the book and downloaded the PDF file with pictures and explanations of the movements, I am going to get moving. Thank you Matthew for the push I needed.

Training techniques for Mature Adults!

This audiobook was gifted to my parents, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. When you age, you tend to lose muscles and bone density; however, keeping fit and healthy will slow the aging process and increase the productivity of our daily life.
They also enjoyed Chapter 4, “Baby steps & setting goals” this has helped them to build healthy routines and follow through on their fitness journey

perfect for seniors!

I picked this book primarily for my dad, who spent a lifetime performing hard physical type work. He was always "strong" in his prime, but now that he's retired, I see how his body is changing and slowing down. This book is exactly what I needed for him! Has practical and approachable exercises perfect for his age that he can gradually incorporate into his day. Well-researched, and well-written, now I just got to get mum on board!!

Helpful book!

As a senior over 60 , I've noticed an increased need for exercise to maintain my strength and continue daily activities without undue effort. The first three-fourths of the book talks about the need for and benefits of exercise which for me was like preaching to the choir. When I finally got to the exercises, I was not disappointed. All he activities I was able to sample were good, effective, and safe. I'd feel good recommending this book to anyone over 60 , particularly if they have been living a sedentary lifestyle.
