About this listen
WHO WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH?
Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens to them is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.
This is a standalone short story of 7,200 words. No prior knowledge of The Riyria Revelations or The Riyria Chronicles is required to enjoy it to its fullest, making this a perfect introduction for new readers or a chance for Riyria veterans to spend a little more time with old friends. The Jester is a story of adventure, bonds of friendship, and a recognition that the choices we make dictates the future we find.

Played by a fool
The Narrative was excellent, and very pleasant to listen too.
Though Michael Sullivan introduced his short story.
I quickly had understanding of the main characters. However, I kept tripping up over own questions, that kept popping into my head whilst listening.
I was left thinking, how did they get there? What happen prior to the opening scene which finds then falling fast and furious nursing injuries. Indeed Aidrian's injuries sound very much like he'd upset a Dragon.
Yet the Pig Farmer was injuried by a single arrow to his side, A Dragon doesn't have need for a bow and arrows. I was left with more questions than answers.
I understood the Jesters test, and had already grasped the fact that only a fool would pull the lever, (as another name for a Jester is a fool.) even though I'd guessed the ending. It didn't distract me from listening to the full dialogue.
It's a sweet story that covers morality and life saving decisions.
It makes you want to know more about the main characters, the story being long enough to peak my curiosity.

Better than some free stories - and truly complete
Any additional comments?
This one reads like the narrative from a DnD game and towards the end will have you shouting "Just get on with it!". Slightly annoying moralising end which would probably appeal to a patriotic appalachian American but might not hit home with many other cultures.

Short tale
just an average short story. Nothing amazing but as it was free and only an hour long, it's ideal to pass the time.
