Summary
The Sunday Times best-selling series.
Whether you've listened to them all or whether you're discovering Alex Gray's best-selling series for the first time, Echo of the Dead will have you gripped until the end.
After a stressful winter, DSI William Lorimer is enjoying some time away from Glasgow. He and his new friend, Daniel Kohi, have retreated to the wilds of the Scottish Highlands to unwind. But what awaits them is far from a holiday.
Despite its troubled history, the mountain village of Glencoe is now a popular resort, famed for its close-knit community, its breath-taking scenery and the warm welcome it offers weary travellers. So it's particularly shocking when two bodies are discovered in quick succession on the nearby peaks....
With a potential serial killer on the loose, Lorimer's Major Incidents Team are drafted in from Glasgow. It's clear that a dark secret lurks beneath the wild beauty of this place. But will Lorimer manage to root it out before the killer strikes again?

Ups and downs
The up... a potentially great story. It's good to have Daniel from the last book involved, perhaps this is gearing us up for a new string to the stable door. Love the narration, yes, even the weird voices. It can't be easy to assign a different voice for the many characters. Taking a Glasgow detective out into the countryside was a bold yet successful move.
The down...who the heck is Davie? He was embraced when a character stretched out to hug a policeman with a different name. Is this a slip in the narration or the writing - I went back to hear this sentence three times and am still baffled. Logan replies to a question from a female character and the narrator says 'replying to him'. Finally, what on earth was the first dead person holding in his hand? A big play is made of Daniel's photographic memory and his disquiet about this missing thing and yet nothing. There's also an awful lot of repetition / reinforcement of some aspects, it's as if the author doesn't trust the audience to follow and remember. It needed better proof-reading or editing at publication stage though why the narrator didn't notice is strange.
These minor irritations aside I enjoyed the story, mostly, and will happily listen to it again.

love this series
I've listened to all the books in this series this one matches all the rest with all the twists and turns- but why has David Monteith decided to change Solly"s accent (and why did no one point this out) cringed every time , come on listen to all your other narration took it from 100 to 80

DSI LORIMER and all. OMG I adore these characters.
Hey, I'm a Glasgow lady and have been all over the places in this book. A wee tourist guide enclosed in Lorimers latest murders. 😇 nicely done.
Did cringe a just a wee bit of some of the accents but hey, I've been hooked since the very first book. Don't ever stop Alex Gray, I adore Lorimer and can't wait for the next. X
