Summary

Somerset’s bloody past meets a dangerous present in this thriller from the bestselling DI Nick Dixon crime series.

When a badly decomposed body is discovered during an archaeological dig on the Sedgemoor battlefield, Avon and Somerset police are notified immediately. The remains are recent, and Detective Chief Inspector Peter Lewis knows exactly who they have found.

A single stab wound from a curved blade implicates convicted serial killer Daniel Parker, who Lewis arrested fifteen years ago.

With Parker’s appeal hearing imminent, Lewis comes under intense pressure to pin this new murder on him quickly and quietly. It’s an open and shut case - and Lewis should know - so why then does he insist on assigning it to DI Nick Dixon?

As Dixon starts to re-examine the original investigation, shocking revelations come in from the forensics team. And just as Dixon’s worst fears begin to surface, another body is found…

Outstanding

Damien never fails to deliver, living local I associate with so much of the book, however one comment you made … you say the street light outside the cottage at Brent knoll kept you awake…. There are no street lights in Brent knoll 😉 can’t wait for the next book and Simon who reads the book is just superb

Refreshing change

Pleasant surprise to listen to a book where the final chapters don’t feature the hero rescuing someone from a flood or fire whilst beating off the villains armed only with an ice cream cone. A decent down to earth procedural excellently performed

“It May Please Us One Day To Remember These Things”.

Brilliant!!

Yet another great story from Damien Boyd. As with his other books he uses real places and details of events, to add even more realism to the story.

This time the audiobook takes us on a history lesson too.

The story has its usual twists and turns, and a nuanced of possible “baddies”. You have to wait until the end to find out who done it.

I really didn’t see the ending of this episode, in the DI Nick Dixon series, coming. A total surprise.

Simon Mattacks once again was amazing in bringing the many characters to life.

I can’t wait to listen to the next audiobook in the series.

Excellent narration

Another great Nick Dixon story, although not my favourite so far, quite a lot of historic battle scene retelling, but still enjoyable. Really good narration, read at a good speed, and with believable, not over the top, voices for each character. off to download the next one now!

Gripping story.

Gripping story, plenty of sub plots, entertaining read. The story included lots of facts about the history of the area too.

Battlefield Intrigue

This series just keeps getting better. Well plotted with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I loved the introduction this time of links to the past being a history buff myself. The characters are well realised and are now firm friends. Looking forward to hearing more from DCI Nixon in the future
