Summary

Though still suffering side effects from the injuries she sustained in a serious fall, Corey Curtis is off restricted duty and back at work in the morgue. Within hours of cutting the cast off her arm with a bone saw, she's asked by her former mentor to assist on a body recovery. Now she's elbow deep in decomposing human remains and a suspicious death that hits far too close to home.

Just when her relationship with Dr. Thayer Reynolds has reached a new milestone, the new case tests Corey's limits while Thayer struggles with a difficult situation at work. Corey's impulsive nature has her hurtling down an all too familiar road with trouble around every corner.

The only thing keeping the wheels from totally coming off is Thayer's unwavering love and support. But when the investigation comes full circle, everyone is caught off guard...threatening a most unhappy ending.

Great series

Cory gets in more trouble as morgue pathologist, this time with drug dealers, whilst still recovering from book 1 and serious migraines.
full of humour and intensity, favourite line "im destracting you ?" as thayer asks Cory to leave while she sets up yoga mat in tight fitting barely there lycra. Cory leaves and gets in more trouble.
Lori Prince narration excellent as usual.

Natural follow on

Unlike so many sequels, this one follows on smoothly, without the feeling that it could have been part of the previous novel or that it could have been a stand-alone.

Narrator gets better as story progresses

This book would be an ok read but, as an audiobook, it is spoiled by the narrator. Although I don't think of it all as her fault, her standard of narration near the beginning of the audiobook is not good. Lori Prince frequently reads either too quickly or slowly and mostly sounds just like a computer. She runs her words together making them unintelligibile or spaces them out so the meaning of sentences are lost. Prince also gets confused about which voice belongs to what character.

However, these problems improve as the reading progresses and, to her credit, Prince does try to give each of the characters a different voice. Unfortunately, she or the director choose voices that make Corey sound stupid, the Sergeant and some other characters sound as if they have the worst ever colds, for the whole production.

You would think Tantor Audio's director for this audiobook project would cast an actor/reader with ability as a narrator or rehearse the actor until they could make a reasonable job of the task, but not so. It seems the thing Tantor productions and Audible are interested in is their profit margin because many of their LGBTQ+ audiobooks are read by inferior, badly prepared narrators, the production sounds rushed and the overall quality is noticeably inferior to audiobooks produced elsewhere. Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that LGBTQ+ audiobooks must not bring in the mega-bucks these companies lust after so they do not really care about the quality of their LGBTQ+ productions, just so long as Audible (Amazon) has titles it can sell.
