Amazing book
I have listened to this twice so far. Both times very enjoyable. I have listened to the whole constable series. Brilliant.

A lovely book, full of common sense
I really enjoyed this book and will definitely listen to others in this series. It is a relaxing, charming novel based on real events in the life of a country policeman. It is lovely to return to England in the 1960s – this is the authentic England, and it is so nice to hear Yorkshire accents, common sense, and good wholesome values. The narrator, Philip Franks, has a lovely voice; you can hear every word, and he is very good with all the accents and all the voices – both male and female. Sound quality is also excellent.

Charming
I didn’t expect to enjoy this, but I was pulled into its warmth. There is no driving narrative, but a series of episodes. It’s full of humanity and community, giving a glimpse of a way of life now forgotten.

Days gone by
“Heartbeat” in written and narrated form. I enjoyed it far more than the television adaptation. Set in the days of bobbies on the beat in small communities where for some life was hard but the togetherness of these villages and the inhabitants helped out as best they could. Of course the local pubs were the heart of entertainment and religion of all persuasions tried to keep their flocks on the straight and narrow! All in all a very enjoyable and memory provoking listen.

Disappointing. Gave up after about 5 chapters
Found the writing style rather dull. No real story or development of characters. The author's habit of listing things became rather irritating. Not my kind of humour. Was there any?
