About this listen
Lord Jasen of Grumhul, an impoverished young nobleman, has come to the Draelands to find a rich husband to help pay his father's debts. To the shock of everyone, he ends up attracting the attention of King Rilvor himself and the dragons who control the magic in the land.
Becoming royalty wasn't something Jasen either expected or wanted, but he can't control his growing feelings for the kind and handsome king. Scheming factions at Court conspire to keep him from Rilvor's side, and now, Jasen has to decide if the chance at true love with Rilvor is worth the burden of being the husband of a king.

enjoyable
sweet little Austen-feels romance with Dragons and magic. I'm not a fan of misinformation or misunderstandings as a plot device which it started to sound like but narrowly avoided. Nice little story with a happy ending.

A book to cheer you up
A light-hearted and amusing story. Well narrated with distinct voices for each character and plenty of expression.

Gary Stu and possibly a dragon?
I didn't get past chapter 6 so I don't know how the story proceeds from there, but I couldn't get through with it. It started out well, The book is certainly written skillfully, and the language matches the era. I enjoyed the banter between the father and son in the beginning, which gave a good characterization of the protagonist. I thought, alright, we have a reluctant protagonist here. Experienced in bed but not in love, aching for an adventure but forced to marry early due to father's mistakes. I thought the story and the dragon world would open up more, besides the usual exposition. But a dragon appeared only in the beginning, while the story focused on Gary Stu and his awesomeness. He is likeable by all the right people, good with kids, goofy and wild, and of course very beautiful. The rest of the court are just stuffy and pretentious, but he is the real deal so, naturally, the king fell for him right away. And he himself didn't seem to mind at all, getting involved with the courtship right away.
Maybe it would have been more interesting if, say, the king himself were a bit snobby (he grew up to be a king after all), and Jay failed the court or went through considerable trouble. Trouble with uncomfortable clothes and gossip is not enough, and skipping the month of his studies leaves an impression that he barely struggled at all. The lovebirds could have a natural chemistry, but would have to grow and be humbled out of their prejudice before uniting in forever after... I may be too old for this story, but I simply couldn't get into such blatant self-insert fantasy,

The audible is as good as the book!
Loved the book and it translated well into audible. New narrator for me and he spoke in a very convincing English accent. He might well be English but I had a cringe moment every time he said bade or forbade... it’s not pronounced bad/ for-bad. It’s a split digraph ffs! It rhymes with made not mad!
That’s the only reason for the 4*

A lovely wee story
I listened to this story, and I did enjoy it. It was a little predictable, but these courtly type stories usually are. The narration was okay, but I felt there were times specific characters all sounded quite similar. However overall I enjoyed it.

Super fun, highly recommend it!
A fun story with lovely characters. The outcomes was extremely predictable but the journey of the story was 110% worth it still.
Recommend it, and I will probably listen to it again myself!

Nice wholesome story
This was an interesting plot with interesting characters in an interesting world, and the narration was great. I enjoyed this story even though I was disappointed with its spicelessness.

Very cute and nice listen
Recommend for a light and heart warming entertainment seeker. Would have loved it to be more developed, especially the kings pov would have been nice, but still overall a nice listen.
