About this listen
Once upon a time, in an alleyway in the slums of the City of Lockes, a young and somewhat lonely boy named Sam Haversford turns a group of teenage douchebags into stone completely by accident.
Of course, this catches the attention of a higher power, and Sam's pulled from the only world he knows to become an apprentice to the king's wizard, Morgan of Shadows.
When Sam's 14, he enters the Dark Woods and returns with Gary, the hornless gay unicorn, and a half-giant named Tiggy, earning the moniker Sam of Wilds.
At 15, Sam learns what love truly is when a new knight arrives at the castle - Knight Ryan Foxheart, the dreamiest dream to have ever been dreamed.
Naturally, it all goes to hell when Ryan dates the reprehensible Prince Justin, Sam can't control his magic, a sexually aggressive dragon kidnaps the prince, and the king sends them on an epic quest to save Ryan's boyfriend, all while Sam falls more in love with someone he can never have.
Or, so he thinks.

Bloody brilliant
Absolutely hysterical. It is like someone put all my favourite things together and wrote a book for me. Klune is bloody brilliant. Not to mention that Michael Lesley is perfection - the timing, the accents, the sass! God of Sass.

No words!
What made the experience of listening to The Lightning-Struck Heart the most enjoyable?
Well, this is one of those books that will either continuously make you chortle or weary you because of the massive stream of intense sex jokes/puns/codes/thoughts- slapping in your face. Being in Sam's mind or more precisely in his little-never-closed mouth will leave you no option for something in the middle. But, I was the apprentice to the King’s Wizard, after all.
What other book might you compare The Lightning-Struck Heart to, and why?
'Tell Me It's Real' and 'The Queen & the Homo Jock King' hold the same energy, I expected nothing less of this book. I would like to say that this book is the MOST ENJOYABLE , compering to the others I've just mentioned above.
Any additional comments?
The narrator, Michael Lesley, did a fabulous performance- nailed every singe voice! The differentiation of each of characters were maintained all the way through. I highly recommend the audiobook!

Awestruck by outstanding writing
Okay YES I'm a TJ Klune fan! BUT his writing just becomes more original, creative and laugh out loud hysterical😂😂 with a huge dose of 'tongue in cheek' to go with it. Sam is the star who's inner monologue is just outstanding 😀What a brilliant bunch of characters !!
The narrator Michael Lesley gave a staggeringly good performance! He kept up with so many characters and made their voices so different and suitable. The BEST and most enjoyable audio book of 2016 so far by a mile !!*****

This narrator is incredible
This one took awhile for me. At first I found the campiness of the narration grating, but I had a room to paint so I put this on while stuck up a ladder for hours and I don’t think it was the paint fumes that made me enjoy it as much as I did. Some lines made me laugh out loud and I enjoyed the story.
And once I got used to it, the narrator, Michael Leslie, was amazing. I’ve never heard one work that hard. I wonder what he thought when he found out the job would include a surprising amount of horse noises.
Anyway, great book, looking forward to the next in the series snd I bow down to Michael Leslie.

Good use of a credit
Would you consider the audio edition of The Lightning-Struck Heart to be better than the print version?
I have got both and they both bring different qualities. I know reading the print version and absorbing the author's text descriptions of tone and inflections I would have expected different choices to be made by the narrator as his choices sometimes completely changed a scene or description for me from my original perception but I still really liked both versions.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lightning-Struck Heart?
The moments for me that stood out were not the comedy (sometimes overly heavy handed) but the emotional scenes, either lone character realisations or connections between two or more of them.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Ryan, Tiggy and Gary rescuing Sam and Justin from their captor.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
See it to believe it....
Any additional comments?
I really, really enjoyed this book. It's overly long and hideously self-indulgent but so light and frothy and sparkly and downright enjoyable that you just don't care. I'm a big fan of both the writer and the narrator so basically had a really good time. Some of the accent choices are downright weird - and horribly off, HORRIBLY - but the whole production is slick, entertaining and the narrator is very, very easy to get swept away with and take you away as he obviously enjoys every single second of what he's reading. I would LOVE the writer to get a strong editor that would help him streamline his works to something a little less cumbersome and unwieldy as I would say at least two-three hours of this book is completely redundant but it doesn't detract from your enjoyment at all and I can't recommend this enough. Spend the credit, you won't regret it!

Beyond Awesome
This has got to be the most incredible audio performance of an equally incredibly funny book I've heard/ read yet. Tj Klune and Michael Lesley
are a collaboration made in heaven.
I would recommend this to everyone that loves to laugh and be bedazzled by Unicorn sparkles.

awesome
It is like a modern monty python and the holy grail. thoroughly irreverant and graphicly rude, but done so well it is hilarious. The performance was the best I have ever heard and I have listened to this narrator/Author combo b4.

Amazingly Entertaining!
Incredible (and I mean incredible not just great) narrator, hilarious (people staring at you cos you're bursting into laughter round the shops hilarious) story line, with all those tiny romantic hearts dotted around that I expect of TJ Klune. Just buy it and within the first 30 seconds you won't want to stop listening.
