Summary

No matter what she tries to do, trouble has a way of finding Brenda and when her old adversary Mr Danby starts filling the airwaves with his late-night phone-in show it can only mean one thing.

But fate has an even bigger surprise in store. Romance is in the air for Brenda and, do what she will, she cannot deny that she and her man were made for each other - literally.

As usual, Brenda and Effie face up to whatever dangers come their way with fortitude and grace: even if that means journeying to places beyond their wildest dreams.

Joanna Tope reads the third gripping, fantastically funny instalment in Paul Magrs’ delightful ‘Brenda & Effie’ series.

Great story

Another great story in the Brenda and Effie series, Only slight criticism would be of one of the voices... But thats my personal taste.
All in all I'd recommend this to everyone.

Hilarious!

What did you like most about Conjugal Rites?

Magrs's use of language and northern colonialisms.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Brenda, because she loves a good punch up.

What about Joanna Tope’s performance did you like?

First class.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but I listened to it over a few nights.

Any additional comments?

The authors use of language made this such a funny book, written in a biographical fashion, it tells the story of Brenda and Effie who battle against the darkside of Whitby in the north of England. Things don't always go right for the crime fighting duo but, the book has a comic ending.

All girls together and Robert too.

Once again Brenda and friends have another hellish adventure as they have to deal with their other halves and relatives.

Brilliant series.

Great fun as usual and Joanna Tope's reading is highly enjoyable, her voices fit the various characters to perfection. I loved reading these books and now I can enjoy listening to them also.

Wonderful

As per the first two books. My opinion is the same. Simply wonderful! great storyline of two elderly ladies mixing in a supernatural world and kicking supernatural butt!

Simply wonderful, duckie!

The further incredible adventures of Whitby’s favourite two guardians - Brenda and Effie. Monster adventures with a touch of proper northern humour and plenty of time for a fish supper.

These stories have got me through these lockdowns and kept me thoroughly entertained!!

Great performance. Less good story

Joanna Tope - sorry good at what she does.

I enjoyed the previous Brenda and Effie books. But I think this is the weakest. About halfway through we start to get multiple points of view in the same scenes. And from secondary characters whilst the main protagonists are present. It detracted from the story and made it feel juvenile.

There are the usual comic gags and I still laughed. But overall I enjoyed the others better. I wondered if this novel had actually been written first because the others felt more polished.

Awful

I was annoyed at having wasted a credit on this book. It began well then just plodded along, padded out with Brenda’s past which is then repeated as an limp explanation of why things have happened.
