Summary

Retirement means immortality. Immortality means adventure. Life begins at 70.

Running on the world's fastest quantum computer is a very special game: one where retirees leave their flesh-and-blood lives in search of endless adventure. Weapons, spells, gold, experience points.... These are the marks by which life is now measured.

Ethan Crane wants none of it. In fact, he never wanted to retire at all, let alone play a game for all eternity. But now he's on a mission to find his wife - a wife he just discovered is still alive and inside the game.

Nothing will stop him from reaching her. Not even himself.

Amazing

The story is fantastic and I was sad when it ended as I wanted to be lost in that world for much longer. As three separate books they may be a little on the short side but as a whole collection they make for an epic romp through a well crafted world.
The MC has no idea on what he is getting himself into most of the time and messes a lot of things up but it all seems to twist and come good in the end. The other characters are well written and you do start to feel for some of them as the harsh world keeps getting them down.
I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who likes GameLit but also anyone who has any interest in future tech fantasy like Vr worlds.
To finish I would like to say that the narrator Travis Baldree does an amazing job at bringing the characters to life and is easy to listen to.

Brilliant

I received this series after winning a competition, however, I had already purchased and listened to the first book in the series and was going to buy the others anyway - thy are that good. But lucky me I won a free copy!!!

These books are brilliantly written and keep you engaged and thinking throughout. I enjoyed the pace, the world of Mythian and the careful attention to detail each character received. The story is very engaging and twists and turns nicely.

Well worth investing in, you will undoubtedly read again and again.

Narration is good but...

Story is kind of dumb imo. MC knows nothing about games and is guided into rigged system. Boosts hundreds of levels to be boosted another hundreds of levels again just so he doesn't need to "play the game" then he becomes god. it's like what was the point of the "game" he was in.

Not fun

My largest problem with this series is that MC feels dumb as hell, and the world just feel depressing. I dropped it 3 hours in.
