Summary
Have you heard that Bill Gates is running a secret genocidal plot? That the war in Ukraine isn't real? Or that people are paid to act out some of the worst attacks imaginable?
In Among the Trolls, BBC journalist Marianna Spring meets the people spreading online conspiracy theories—and their victims. Far from a few lone wolves, she uncovers a staggering network of true believers and conspiracy influencers engaged in an international information war.
Based on first-hand interviews and original reporting, this eye-opening and unforgettable book reveals the human stories behind the fake accounts.

A reminder of how awful humans can be!
Lots of stories to illustrate the problems of conspiracy land. Now policymakers need to step up.
As a teacher, it’s made me think how too much emphasis has been put on memorising facts since gove reforms. Need more space in the curriculum to develop confidence of people to discern when they are being manipulated online. And also to develop the understanding that bad things happen in the world and our brains have to make sense of it but that online content could just be a grifter’s way to earn money or feel part of something bigger than themselves.
As a parent, a reminder to check in very regularly with my kids about what they’re being fed online.
I also realised how much better my life has been since I stopped going on twitter!

thorough, timely, brave and professional
an excellent review of authors work into the murky world of online disinformation and it's repugnant real world effects, this will not be popular with those the shutter-minded who think themselves to be open-minded and well informed, which is a shame because the author gives them more consideration and understanding than they give her.

Everyone must listen to this!
Very informative and rational. I was very happy to find this audio book after listening to a few of Marriana Spring podcasts. This book is a perfect representation of logical approach to conspiracy theories that so many fall for these days, and looking at it all from a logical perspective

A scary and fascinating insight into how the world works
I’ve always enjoyed Mariannas work on podcasts and reporting, and this book is more of the same (in a good way). The impartial nature of her work always stands out (and angers those down conspiracy rabbit holes or on the far right who scream “lie” when it’s something they don’t agree with (looking forward to seeing the trolls come on and bash this book!)
Great listen, if a little depressing on the state of the world.

A must listen
A clear journey through some of the author's investigations into online conspiracy and trolling. She shares views from both sides in an attempt to understand why people believe the conspiracies and/or troll people online

An excellent look at how social media manipulation and conspiracy belief is growing into a real threat to
This is an excellent look at a growing problem in our world. A very well researched and thought out book at an issue that has real long term implications in this world. Very much recommended.
