Touch his mate and you'll wish for the fires of hell.

Alpha of the Hellhound enforcers, Derek doesn't think he has time for a mate until the Paranormal Council of the city gives him one.

Hollis is a smart, funny, vulnerable human, and his police commissioner uncle has designs to use Hollis's new mating for his own ends.

He'll learn quickly not to mess with a hellhound's mate.

A Hellhound Called Derek is the first in this fast-paced novella series where the paranormals are all deliciously protective of their humans, no matter what type of trouble they get into.

MM - True Mates - Paranormal

Author Michelle Frost is new to me, and I am already awaiting the following audio in this series; I loved it.

It was a short paranormal arranged marriage novella, but it contained everything I needed from a book: great characters, a good world setting, and a story that didn't feel too short, even though it was only two hours long.

Zachary, the narrator, once again delivered an excellent performance. I've had the pleasure of listening to about 15 of his books, and his narration style has become a comforting norm for me. I did speed up the narration to 1.25 on Audible, which is my norm.

I recommend the book/narration and can't wait for the rest of the series.

A short but action-packed paranormal romance

Derek and Hollis's romance was short, sweet, and packed with just enough action to keep me on the edge of my seat. I was intrigued by the concept of paranormals agreeing to an arranged mating with humans, and while Hollis and Derek's first meeting was super awkward, it didn't take long for their natural compatibility to shine through. Their physical attraction to each other was obvious immediately, and as they got to know each other better, I could sense how safe each of them felt in the other's presence. Hollis was such an adorably shy sweetheart, and I loved seeing how Derek's protectiveness helped him relax and be more open. Because their story was on the shorter side, I didn't get to see a ton of their day-to-day life or steamy moments together, but that just made me savor the ones I did get. I was pleasantly surprised by the way the action in this book set up a larger plotline for the rest of the series, and I'm excited to read about the other mated couples!

4.5

It's unusual to see novellas narrated, so I was happy to see an audio version of this series was being made. I've read each one and look forward to listening to them too.

As they are novella length, insta-love or at least a fast moving connection, is at play here. Derek is absolutely lovely with Hollis as soon as they meet. He's always checking in and making sure he's comfortable.

There's a larger plot with a human based resistance against the paranormals of the city which runs through the next few novellas. This means the ending is a tad abrupt because the story will continue with Hollis and Derek making appearances later on.

A quick listen with good narration. Entertaining.

A great story

I enjoyed a lot the original premise of this book. Derek and Hollis are so perfect for each other! I loved the protectiveness of Derek and Hollis’ strength and determination in obtain the life he wants in spite of his awful family. A great love story! Regarding the narration, this is the first book I have heard narrated by Mr. Zaba and I can tell that it will not the last one. His voice was very nice and smooth, his acting skills were amazing and it was wonderful the way he managed all the characters. So good!

Enjoyable M/M Mates Romance

I really enjoyed this quick mating story. Paranormals co-exist with humans, and the races have decided some human-paranormal matings between high-ranking members or relatives of each society will further relations. So Derek, leader of the hellhounds, is one of those selected to mate with a human. By the enticing scent, he chooses Hollis, who is the nephew of a high-ranking member of human law-enforcement. Neither realizes Hollis' uncle has a hidden agenda, which quickly becomes apparent, when he tries to take advantage of Hollis' new position. I felt for Hollis and the poor way his uncle and cousins treated him, but I loved the way he stood up to them, and the sweet love and support Derek gave him. I loved the hellhound's protective nature and his winged 'alter-ego.' I look forward to hearing the stories of the other two mate pairings.

The narration was good with clear, different voices for the characters.
