About this listen

When a nerdy drummer meets an attractive bodyguard, secrets threaten to unravel not only their families, but their futures.

Gabe Johnson

In the world of pop-punk and nerdom, I'm the drummer that defies stereotypes.

I strive to be the perfect son my wealthy father demands and being gay doesn't equate.

When a striking, muscled bodyguard is thrown into my life to protect me from mobsters, can I keep my secret or fall victim to my heart?

Jeremy Sweet

I'm racing up the ladder in Gabe's father's law firm and he's entrusted me to safeguard his son.

As I dive deep into Gabe's world and even share his bedroom, the lines between obligation and desire blur. With my own questioning swirling inside me, how can I find out if Gabe's queer?

As the gangsters motives unravel, it becomes clear that the future peace of Gabe's family and my career are at stake. Can we fix this mess together?

Protect My Heart is the fifth book in the Rock U series and is part of the Mesa Boys universe. This novel features a nerdy law student falling for his jock of a bodyguard amongst a bisexual awakening, forced proximity and a backdrop of a shady scheme. It guarantees an HEA and has no cliffhangers. It features a rich boy with daddy issues, and a man whos questioning himself. Each book features a different couple and can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Trigger warning: This book contains themes of prejudice by a parent and a deceased parent. It also contains mention of a previous suicide attempt.

Heartwarming

This story is about a bodyguard and coming out story. I really enjoyed Gabe and Jeremy’s story. Both are stumbling with any sort of relationship. Neither really have time. Gabe is in law school and has a dad who accepts nothing less than top grades. Gabe has no time for much else. He watches his roommates getting involved and envies them. Then his dad contacts him about needing better security or needs to move home. His dad has a law firm and is concerned about someone possibly causing his family harm. Gabe has no intention of moving home. His mom and brother know he is gay but he is afraid of his dad finding out. His dad’s solution is to hire Jeremy to be a bodyguard for him.

Jeremy works for Gabe’s dad and is planning on attending law school next year as soon as his finances are better.

Then these two have a sort of instant attraction after Gabe finally agrees to accept Jeremy being with him.

This is a heartwarming story. I enjoyed the secondary characters and was happy for the resolution between Gabe and his dad.

The narration by Finnley Cole really brought these characters to life.

Student and drummer and his bodyguard ..... so good

A brilliant take on the young rockstar/bodyguard theme by Christie Gordon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook from start to finish. Having listened to previous books in the Rock U series it was fascinating to have Gabes relationship with its dad explained and to then see it changing through the chapters.

And as far as Jeremy is concerned... everyone should have their own superman.

highly recommended

Excellent

Really enjoying this narrator, the acting fits the characters well.
Another couple finding each other and growing this really sweet found family. I really liked Jeremy's calm bi-awakening and could understand Gabe's family difficulties. The threat/need for a bodyguard part didn't feel quite realistic to me considering the high stakes mob involvement. Looking forward to the next couple of this enjoyable series.

I loved it!

This is book five in the series but you can read it as a standalone. We follow a group of friends who are college students and members of band. Each book focuses on a different couple.
This is Gabe and Jeremy's story.
Gabe's father's is a lawyer and when his family gets threatened he decides to hire a bodyguard, Jeremy, to protect Gabe.
Jeremy is instantly attracted to Gabe and feels confused because he always thought he was straight. He tries to resist but he eventually gives in.
This was a great addition to the series. I really enjoyed following Gabe and Jeremy's journey to their happily ever after. I loved their chemistry and I really loved Jeremy's bi awakening story.
My favourite part of the book was the found family theme. The way Gabe's friends embraced Jeremy warmed my heart. I adore how these guys take care of each other.
The narrator was brilliant as always. I couldn't stop listening and I loved how he voiced the characters.

MM - Band Bodyguard romance

Wow, it's book five of the series, and I loved it.

We meet Gabe, the band drummer and a law student. His father is working on a case that causes problems for his family, including Gabe.

Jeremy works for Gabe's father while paying off his student loans and starting to study Law. Gabe's dad asks him to bodyguard Gabe while he finishes this case. Things turn iffy fast, and Gabe is outed to his family.

I found this book to be well-written and thoroughly enjoyable. I listened overnight and couldn't put it down. It's a great story.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book/audio to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel.

The narration was good. Finnley Cole's clear and concise delivery made the listening experience enjoyable. I did speed up the narration to 1.15 on Audible, but this is normal for me.
