Story
Young Billy Jones comes from a notorious family of drunks and thieves. So, when he fails to return home it's hardly a surprise. However, when mutilated remains are found it becomes apparent that a savage executioner is stalking the untamed, windswept moorland that surround this northern town. The clues lead DS Lasser directly to the poverty-stricken Radfield family who once owned great swathes of local land. When another body is discovered, Lasser's convictions are thrown into turmoil. Someone is playing a vicious game, someone with a burning hatred for the Radfield family.

Story
Author Robert Engelbart is slowly finding his feet in the picturesque village of Dapple Dyke. After a long period of writer's block, he had actually gotten busy with the Imperial typewriter, and to his own amazement, he now has a new book out, and as far as Robert is concerned, that is the end of the matter - that is, until his agent insists he attends the Tapmore Literary Festival to mix with the great and the good.

Story
Charlie Roebuck knows all about ''showbiz''. He's spent his adult life in front of the camera, an expert in the art of the condescending smile, a genius at appearing to give a damn. Be it grilling bent politicians or dissecting the personal lives of the great and good, it's all the same to Charlie, all grist to the mill. But when he is forced to front the last series of Pinches of Salt he fears the worst. For the past 30 years the show has been following five lacklustre individuals through their tiresome lives and every five years the TV company descend to pick over their bones.
