The Roman Empire is in terminal decline, and Prydain has become a land filled with conflict and danger. However there is hope. In the West, the ancient Celtic culture is still strong and vibrant. When Arthnog was a child, his villa was attacked and his family lost. Taken into the protection of the Celts, he grows up secretly blaming himself for the misfortunes that befell his people. Once a young man, he feels compelled to travel the lands in search of meaning.

The enlightened ones had failed to subjugate the people of Prydain through armed force or political manipulation. So they decided to unleash a plague upon our island, a plague that they could use to enforce their Middle Eastern ways upon the free people of the west. However, Prydain was built upon strong foundations and would not succumb easily to conquest.

Awakening: the process of becoming aware. The wielder of the great sword, Caledfwlch, starts to become aware of the true purpose for which the blade was forged. Around Prydain forces gather. The enlightened ones haven't given up on subjugating the Celts. However, the greatest threats emerge close to King Arthnog and perhaps the most dangerous force of all is emerging within the King himself.
