Mary Poppins alkonyattájt a keleti széllel érkezik Banks-ék házába és szinte azonnal olyan otthonosan érzi magát, mintha mindig ott élt volna. A gyerekekkel is rögtön megtalálja a közös hangot. Igen, Mary a keleti széllel jött és egy napon a nyugati széllel ment el. De mi történt közben a Banks-házban?! A keleti széllel érkezett meg hajdanán a Banks családhoz a „csudálatos” dadatündér, hogy sok varázslatos kaland után, legalább olyan titokzatosan, mint ahogy érkezett, búcsút vegyen De Jane, Michael és az ikrek soha nem hitték, hogy örökre távozott.
