Rachel is on her property in the remoteness of the Australian outback, alone. Her husband has passed, and her estranged son, having left years ago, returns to demand a share of his father's inheritance. Rachel is frightened of him and then becomes suspicious of him when she discovers a dead body in her creek. She calls the police and meets a new police sergeant, Mike, and his new and enticing friendship is something Rachel finds refreshing. With Mike confronting her son and a gun fight ensuing with a motorcycle gang, everything seems to be spiraling out of control.

Five years have passed, and Rachel has lived happier than she had ever known before… That is, until everything goes horribly wrong with dark shadows from her troubled past remerge to haunt her bliss. Her feral son arises in her worst nightmares while her stepdaughter seems to be going through some odd teenage angst, but then again, it is always possible it is much more sinister things at play… Then there are the cattle duffers, or are they simply after the cattle? An Irish artist turns up again, looking bedraggled and miserable.
