An 11-year-old boy, who lost his father early, loses his faith in Christmas and Saint Nicholas. By happy chance, a very powerful magical artifact happens to be in the boy's hands. The artifact has been stolen from Saint Nicholas by his arch-enemy. Forces of evil and good start their fight for the young character's soul.

A grown up Paul Martin, having become a journalist, leads an investigation of a mysterious murder. All the evidence points to his old acquaintance, Arius. Paul's brother, Pierre, becomes a victim of an accident, and the main character accompanied by his niece, Junia, sets off for a dangerous journey to Arius' lands to save the soul of Junia's father.

Nonnon, Arius' faithful accomplice, who is pretending to the title of the King of Dwarves, finds a legendary Crow of Seven Kingdoms. Now the battle between light and darkness—Saint Nicholas' powers and Arius's powers—cannot be prevented. And again Paul Martin, an editor of the magazine The Star of Bethlehem, is to play the main role in the battle.
