يعدُّ ابن رشيق القيرواني أحد أفضل البلاغيين والناقدين والشعراء والأدباء في تاريخ الأدب العربي، كان القيرواني ان روميا وکان مولی من موالي الأزد.حينما کان عمره ست عشرة سنة، رحل إلی القيروان لأنها کانت في قديم الزمان دار العلم بالمغرب وکان اشتهر بها ومدح صاحبها المعز بن باديس واتصل بخدمته وأمضی أربعين سنة ما بين قصره وحلقات العلم في المسجد، فعرف بالقيرواني.
