Two young women are missing, their only connection being that they attended the same party, hosted by a notorious businessman. When one of the women is found murdered, the police discover an unusual signature left by the killer, giving them reason to suspect he will strike again. The Galaxy Unit was relatively new to the force; it had been set up two years previously, specifically to work with cases of child abduction and murder. All of the team worked well together, handling over 30 cases at any one time. The story is a romance set in 1980s Alaska. Through his love-at-first-sight romance with a gold miners daughter, the main character, Roy, discovers her native family. He reveals his ambition to become an artist, which endears him to his new girlfriend, but conflicts with his oil field job in the arctic. He begins to see ghosts and has strange dreams as he submerges himself into a culture he never knew existed.
