January is known as the dead season in the small Smoky mountain community of Hanover County, North Carolina. For dog trainer and wilderness expert Raine Stockton, who hasn't had a client in six month, this season has been deader than most.

Meet Nelson, the feisty and lovable little dog whose only wish is to be reunited with his beloved human family once more. Follow along as he tries to find a way back from the Afterlife, where he uncovers what happened next (and before) in the lives of his human friends and family after he had to leave them behind.

When Nelson, a little dog, is reborn, he finds out that he has forgotten all about his former life and the time he spent on the Other Side after he died. And most importantly he has forgotten all about his beloved human family, the one he came back for in the first place. All he is left with is the distinct feeling that there is something that he should remember. And that he is meant to be somewhere else. But try as he might he just can’t figure out where and why.

We were supposed to fill in the blank: "Dead as _______." Being a group of authors, we all jumped on board with our silly answers, mine being: "Dead as my hamster would be if our dog's fantasy came true." Several mousey answers were posted, and my head filled up with a lifetime of dead mouse and other rodent stories - true stories all - and Ten Dead Mice: See How They Died was brought to life.
