Pressia Belze has lived outside of the Dome ever since the detonations. Struggling for survival she dreams of life inside the safety of the Dome with the 'Pure'. Partridge, himself a Pure, knows that life inside the Dome, under the strict control of the leaders' regime, isn't as perfect as others think.

K is a fourth level Paladin and a servant of Purity - the holy nothingness she has been taught to revere and aspire to from childhood. Affecting the brain in previously unknown ways, users find themselves in an inverted "opposite" world where their likes and dislikes are reversed, unpleasant and frightening situations become appealing, disgust triggers elation, and dismay, even pain, morph into pleasurable sensations. The drug is highly addictive.

The Lunar Massacre was considered to be one of the greatest tragedies of all time. One man rose through the ranks of the Batiste faith to spread a message of hope and liberation. His name was Fernando Jacquard, and his mission is to inspire the Batiste to make their spirituality the central focus of their lives. Only through faith, he said, could they win this war. But not everyone is convinced that his motives are pure. Jacob is worried that his message could be used against the people, and Elizabeth is too.

Abel and Jacob are safe, resting in a beautiful house on the hillside where they can look down at the city while they bask in their newfound freedom. But Abel is restless. He's being plagued by visions of the other parishioners he left behind in the Eucharist after their daring escape.
