Story
From the outside, the men of today should be happy. They have it comparatively easy. They still get paid more for doing the same jobs. They are still 40 per cent more likely than women to be promoted to management roles. At home, men do washing up and petrol, wine and bins. Women still do everything else. But below the surface, there is a different story unfolding. Men in the UK are three times more likely to take their own life than women. Men aged 45-49 have the highest rate of suicide, nearly four times that of women the same age.

Story
The most important issue in a gay man’s life is not “coming out”, but coming to terms with the invalidating past. Despite the progress made in recent years, many gay men still wonder, “Are we better off?” The byproduct of growing up gay in a straight world continues to be the internalization of shame, rejection, and anger - a toxic cocktail that can lead to drug abuse, promiscuity, alcoholism, depression, and suicide.

Story
On the morning of May 9, 1980, harbor pilot John Lerro was guiding a 600-foot freighter, the Summit Venture, into Tampa Bay. Directly in the ship's path was the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Suddenly, a violent weather cell reduced visibility to zero at the precise moment when Lerro attempted to direct the 20,000-ton vessel underneath the bridge. Unable to stop or see where he was going, Lerro drove the ship into a support pier.

Story
We’ll discuss (and have the odd rant about) all the pressures of being a man, approaching (sorry, we have to say it) middle age. All the fears we have but are often too embarrassed to discuss with our friends. And even the fact that you no longer seem to have “friends” just colleagues and other dads that you nod to at school and club drop-offs. But we’ll also look at the science and psychology behind why we often feel how we feel, why even the most successful people (from business to sport to entertainment) can experience doubt and lack of direction and how small changes in your life, ...

Story
Men are breaking down. The Breaking Down Men podcast asks why? And what can be done about it? Long-time friends Jim & Jay (a therapist and a comedian) explore manliness and masculinity in conversations that are sometimes informative, often humorous, and always interesting. No topic is off limits in this weekly podcast as Jim & Jay make each other laugh and chat about history, culture, health, politics, religion, sex, and sports. With a dash of Gen X pop culture thrown in. Our society is deeply divided on what it means to be a man, but men aren’t breaking down because of feminists, gay people...

Dad, the Man Who Lied to Save the Planet

Story
Recalling his growing-up years in Los Angeles following World War II, author James Pratt describes 12 lessons he learned from observing his father, an unpretentious and uneducated man who acquired little of this world's wealth but who lived an honorable life. "For some, these 12 virtues may seem antiquated, out of date, or hopelessly provincial," writes Pratt. "I don't see it that way. What my father practiced and conveyed to me were principles that made it possible for children to grow up in a stable, two-parent home, where there was a widely accepted code of decency, honesty, honor, and patriotism."
