The Church is very good at saying all the right things about racial equality. But the reality is that the institution has utterly failed to back up these good intentions with demonstrable efforts to reform. It is a long way from being a place of Black flourishing.

Ghosts and other supernatural phenomena are widely represented throughout modern culture. They can be found in any number of entertainment, commercial, and other contexts, but popular media or commodified representations of ghosts can be quite different from the beliefs people hold about them, based on tradition or direct experience. Personal belief and cultural tradition on the one hand, and popular and commercial representation on the other, nevertheless continually feed each other.

Most of us know that our history is plagued by atrocious acts of slavery, racism, and discrimination. What many people don’t fully consider is the perpetuation of subconscious beliefs about race. This belief that racial discrimination is acceptable has been handed down in our culture from one generation to another. The unchecked spread of racism serves only to corrupt the human rights of all racialized people.
