The Freaks of Mayfair by E.F. Benson is a series of satirical sketches introducing us to some bizarre inhabitants of Edwardian High Society of Mayfair, which was, and still is today, the stamping ground of the very wealthy. Each sketch introduces a different type of "freak". Sir Louis and Lady Mary Marigold turn snobbism into fine art; Sarah Whitehand is the social-climbing wife of an American toilet bowl magnate, and the so-called "Grizzly Kittens", Babs Begum and Charlie Gordon, cling desperately to their youth as they totter toward old age.

The thing was weary of life itself; it hadn't asked to be born in the first place - and sure as hell not like this...a freak. It was a freak in every aspect of the word; covered in scabs, maggot-infested wounds covering its lower body. Its tail was infected, gangrenous, as was its genitalia. He (it) was so tired; racked with excruciating pain, it wanted nothing more than just to die.

A seemingly well-planned robbery proves deadly to Ice when the victim happens to be "Supreme" - a rising star in a violent New York drug cartel.

Alex Issa's thought provoking stories are difficult to classify. From post-apocalyptic fables tackling restraint in the absence of law to tales of hit man morality, his short fiction has challenged readers and delighted critics with its minimalist sensibilities and ever-present subtext. Here, two almost surreal short stories lead the listener through disturbing and somehow beautiful locations in the mind.
