Di origine antichissima - già i greci organizzavano questo tipo di competizioni - ha avuto un rinnovato slancio negli ultimi anni, prima in America e adesso in tutto il mondo. Simone Savogin ha cominciato la sua carriera di poeta slammer nel 2005 e nel 2013 ha fondato, insieme ad altri, la LIPS (Lega Italiana Poetry Slam).
