Jai is nothing more than a royal hostage and lowly servant to the empire that slew his family and now rules his people. Deshalb soll Titus, der arrogante Sohn des Kaisers, die schöne Tochter des Barbarenkönigs heiraten. Doch dann überschlagen sich die Ereignisse am Hof, und ausgerechnet Jai, ein Sklavenjunge aus der Steppe, kommt einem Komplott Titus' auf die Spur.
