  • Bob Morris | Founder of Gladstones, Paradise Cove Malibu + Winner of SN18 The Voice - Todd Tilghman

THE JEREMIAH SHOW Featuring Bob Morris | Founder of Gladstones, Paradise Cove Malibu + Winner of SN18 The Voice - Todd Tilghman. *TJS In REWIND - This Classic Show Originally Aired in 2021 Bob Morris is one of the most successful restaurateurs in Southern California—Gladstones ranked among the highest-grossing independent restaurants in the country. The Morris family loves to say, “What comes around goes around.” Bob Morris is a third-generation Californian. He and his family have a long history in Malibu and, more specifically, Paradise Cove. Bob is a true restaurateur, and it's hard to find anyone in the business who doesn't know his name. Bob Morris has created some of the world's very best, highest-grossing restaurants in the restaurant industry, opening hotspots such as Gladstone’s Malibu, The Jetty, RJ’s The Rib Joint, the Malibu Sea Lion, and Gladstone’s Universal, among others. The original Gladstones was opened by Robert J. Morris on the former Ted's Grill site in Santa Monica Canyon in 1972, and then it was moved to its home on the beach at 17300 Pacific Coast Highway in 1981. Bob Morris sold the restaurant in 1984 to W.R. Grace Co. Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, who owned Gladstones for many years, is planning to transition the restaurant to a new concept with Wolfgang Puck and Frank Gehry. Despite recent challenges, Gladstones remains a well-known landmark in Malibu, recognized for its history and oceanfront setting. In the 1950s, Bob Morris’ father, Papa Joe, bought 70 acres of land on Paradise Cove when Malibu was still a sleepy beach community, just on the brink of stardom thanks to shows like Sea Hunt and Malibu Run, both of which were shot at the cove. Bob and his brother Bryant grew up on the cove when it was still primarily a fishing destination, with hundreds of fishermen sitting on the pier or launching boats daily. • Anne Heche & Mariel Hemingway - Award-Winning Actors & Activists
    Dec 31 2024
THE JEREMIAH SHOW Featuring Anne Heche & Mariel Hemingway TJS in REVERSE - * This Show Originally Aired in 2021. Today, it is my pleasure to welcome two incredibly talented actors and best-selling authors who have both faced incredible success but have been faced with setbacks that would have made us made many of us give up. Mariel Hemingway & Anne Heche. They are here to talk to us about the lessons that they have learned along the way, refusing to give up, fighting their way through the pain, and how they chose to live with intention: A more fulfilling life of simplicity, a focus on their craft, adventure, stillness, and laughter. Mariel Hadley Hemingway is an Academy Award-nominated actress and a best-selling author. She began acting at age 14 in a breakout role in Lipstick (1976) and received Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations for her role in Woody Allen's Manhattan (1979). She is also known for her roles in Personal Best (1982), Star 80 (1983), and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. She is the daughter of American royalty, The Hemingway family. Her grandfather is Ernest Hemingway, an American writer. Mariel was the third daughter born to Jack Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway's son, and Byra Whittlesey. Her older sister, Muffet, suffered for years from instability. Her middle sister, Margaux, a celebrated actress and model who was caught up in the fast lane of career and success, eventually died of the effects of her driven lifestyle. Mariel was forced to assume the role of stable center of her family. Mariel turned to yoga and its meditative practice to maintain her center. Much of her adult life has been directed toward finding and maintaining her balance in situations that have been heartbreakingly unsettling and emotionally disorienting. She is a mother to two daughters. Anne Heche is an Emmy Award-winning celebrated actor and NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER for her biographical book, “Call Me Crazy.” As a survivor of abuse, she's learned how to live and face the reality of a broken past on her terms. Her father was one of the first men to die of aids in America, and three months later, her brother took his own life. At 14, Anne found herself pretty much alone in the world. Despite these personal tragedies, Anne lived a survivor's life: She reached the top of the Hollywood A-List. She has starred with nearly everyone from Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert De Niro, and Dustin Hoffman. She guest-starred on the sitcom Ellen, fell in love with its star, Ellen DeGeneres, and watched the roles dry up. These strong women have “traveled a terrifying inner landscape in search of personal fulfillment -- and have emerged happy, whole, and strong.” Mental health is such a personal thing. We each deal with it in our own way, but we all need to be mindful of our triggers, what to avoid, and how to stay healthy. THE JEREMIAH SHOW Featuring Founder Rick McCarthy & Chef Nick Oberlin | Baby Blues BBQ Baby Blues BBQ is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. It all began when a group of friends moved from the Midwest to Venice Beach, California, searching for sun, surf, and fun in their early twenties. Twenty years later, with millions of briskets, ribs, and cornbread served and one devasting fire that closed Baby Blues down, they rebuilt and are smokin' like never before! Listen as owner Rick McCarthy and Chef Nick Oberlin recount the incredible stories about how they beat the restaurant odds lasting over 20 years, a fire, and a rough location in Venice to create one of the best BBQ joints in the world. Baby Blues BBQ takes pride in its classics: house-smoked brisket and pork, mac and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, and irresistible banana pudding. • New Year's Eve in Japan
    Dec 27 2024
THE KIMI KATO SHOW with Jeremiah Featuring New Year's Eve in Japan The New Year is widely viewed as a time to start over — a clean slate. It’s an opportunity to leave behind past mistakes, challenges, or regrets and embrace new beginnings with optimism. This "reset" aligns with our natural inclination to mark time and milestones as moments for reflection and renewal. Many cultures have rituals or practices associated with the New Year that emphasize renewal, gratitude, and hope for the future. In Japan, for example, hatsumōde at shrines symbolize a spiritual reset. In the West, traditions like making resolutions are rooted in self-improvement and goal-setting. We are naturally drawn to rhythms and cycles, such as the passage of days, months, and years. The New Year provides a mental checkpoint for evaluating personal growth and planning for the future. Setting resolutions or intentions motivates because it offers a structured framework for achieving aspirations. Japan says goodbye to the old year on New Year’s Eve, called Ōmisoka. Ōmisoka is all about reflection and preparation—emphasizing cleansing and renewal. The New Year’s Eve starts with Ōsōji, the deep cleaning of homes before the New Year. It’s a physical and spiritual reset. Preparing your space by removing the old makes room for good fortune in the year ahead. Families take this tradition seriously, often involving every member of the household. After that, Families gather to enjoy toshikoshi soba, or “year-crossing noodles.” The noodles symbolize a wish for a long, humble, healthy life. Eating them is a way to let go of the past year's hardships and start fresh. Eating Soba noodles on New Year’s Eve. Usually, after dinner at the turn of the year. Another major part of Ōmisoka focuses on family activities like watching TV. One of the most popular programs is Kōhaku Uta Gassen, a music competition featuring Japan’s top artists of that year. It’s not just entertainment but also a way to reflect on the year through music and culture. Let's delve deeper into Kōhaku Uta Gassen, a cornerstone of Japan's New Year's Eve celebrations. This annual music program, produced by NHK, translates to "Red and White Song Battle," symbolizing the competition between the Red Team (female artists) and the White Team (male artists).
