  • Guest - The Childhood Friends
    Nov 19 2024

We all have that special someone in our lives that we've shared so much with. The kingergarten days when 'sponsibilities' was just another word we couldn't pronounce. From playdates to being bonded by a secret truth about what happened on that dark highway in the middle of nowhere that can never be shared, childhood friends are worth the price of admission. That price is anywhere from $1.68 to $750 on patreon.com/Sothatstheshow. Claire and Andrew talk us through what the perspective of a childhood friend brings to the podcasting industry and creates more work for Sean and Richard to do next episode then perhaps ever before. We should start having on guests that actually like us for once.

You flip up the lapel of your trenchcoat bracing against the rain. Viva La Vida still rings in your ears as you hail a hovercab down from the skylanes. The cabbie had a mean look about him like a cabbage patch kid raised by a sour patch kid.

His nametag said Charles but his lips said Charlie. What gives? What did 'charles' have to hide? If that even is his real name. With another transactional grunt and an exchange of credits you take to the skies. Well 6 feet off the ground. Another car pulls into the lane behind you. It moves in close almost scraping your wheels as it undertakes you. Wait a second. You recognize that car. You'd recognise it anywhere. Its your 1998 Honda Malibu. You left it parked halfway across town with the keys in it and the doors open. You were so excited about the case that you just took off.

Thankfully this is one problem thats going to solve itself.
With the brakelines cut the car slams into a cyber hotdog stand sending buns and dogs everywhere. Finally, some good news.

There comes a time in every podcast's life where you take a sharp pivot. For us this happens 26 times a year. Thanks to our first Patreoner's fat stacks ka-ching we are willing to do whatever he asks and go way off track in the process.

We meander between Wonka's candy hellscape, gator hate crimes, and Naruto's lackluster naming conventions all in the search of the Perfect Podcast™. What we end up with is a new kind of show that will fully encompass your life, extending beyond the present listening experience and into the murky past

If you want us to do whatever you ask please leave a review, send us an email - sothatstheshow@gmail.com, or find us online at patreon.com/sothatstheshow.

Your Blackberry is as inscrutable as it is functional. Your fingers slide across the 4 rows of buttons that take up half the front-device real estate. The screen show several pixelated icons that might have been drawn with an etch a sketch. You scroll down to messages where it blinks insistently that you have a new one from an unregistered number. This could be the break in the case you're looking for.

You scroll one further to the music icon. You put on Viva La Vida by Coldplay.

    Damn. You love this song.

    It begins to rain.

Richard and Sean set out to record another mummy-themed episode this week, but little do they know, things might not go according to plan. At least it's a beautifiul day outside today. Perfect to take care of some unruly grass, perhaps???

Somebody dies in this episode. Yeah. Dead dead. At least we made it to 10 episodes before our first casualty. And no, Wingman doesn't count. Oh shoot, look out! It's horrible 90s movie CG graphics! Shield your eyes!!!

This week's guest, Eli, takes us further away from the light but closer to the light of day. Prepare for our BIGGEST pivot yet. This ep we talk about defining, refining, and refinding our recording space and thinking about your space. Where are you? Where are we? We hope to find out next week!

Dick Justice was useless. You knew you shouldn't have entrusted the agency to him. You file a quick complaint against him to your old friends at the DA on your trusty Blackberry 6210. Damn it, forgot your password. What was it again? You check your arm which is covered in words tattooed into your skin. Hopefully you wrote it down somewhere. Pepsi brand Oreos - Get em while they're hot. Thats right, you sold ad space on your body to fuel your blood donation habit. Remember to shop at Maurice's Meats. Maurice's Meats? Where have you heard that before? You type it into your Blackberry. Bingo. It's your password.

In this episode Chairman and his new best friend the Huntinator are up to their most nefarious scheme yet! Uh oh looks it has something to do with GULP Mummies!!!! Will they succeed in their evil plans, or will the entire show crumble under the premise of having to fit it in under 30 minutes? Why don't you take a seat and heat up nice warm cup of hot cocoa and take a listen. I can't promise Sean's audio editing will be gentle on the ears, but he tried his best.

    The Huntinator backstory:

The Galaxy's most feared bounty hunter came from humble beginnings. As a young man, he had always wanted to become an actor. After countless auditions it looked look his dream may come true when he was attached to a major role in Animaniacs. However, after creative disputes with Yakko he was dropped from the project, and creative disputes with the Warners have especially dire consequences. The Huntinator struggled to find a gig in Hollywood after this. He soon returned to his hometown where he began attending Community College. In a remedial literature course The Huntinator read the SparkNotes for the 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game, and his life was changed forever. He took his space car to walmart and bought a 12 gauge shot gun that very day, and the rest is history.

    HUNTINATOR STATS: Strength - 2/5 Intelligence - 1/5 Accuracy - 3/5 Plasticity - 2/5 Faith in god - 5/5 Height - 4'5" Blood Type - Red In memoriam: Wingman

We're broke! If you've been paying attention it should be obvious. We haven't talked about caviar or hunting people on a private island in ages. We're looking to get back on top with some financial advice from the only person we know who has their own bank account. We flesh out our patreon and come up with some creative solutions to DISRUPT the podcast industry once and for all. Join us next week for our most frantic episode yet.

Dick Justice pulls his key out and begins rattling around in an ancient filing cabinet.

"Just because the make and model of your car changed between episode descriptions doesn't necessarily mean the Decepticons were involved but .... aha here it is!"

He exclaims as the dust of a million mummies flies out of the cabinet.

    cough cough

"Yes, take a look at this."

He deposits a thick stack of papers in your hands.

"Its my new manuscript. Kind of a rock opera about my life."

You stare out the window wondering where everything went wrong.

"Just give it a read, oh and here is a link to my soundcloud where I have some first takes for the songs. Just imagine them with instrumentals behind them."

On the street below a corpo-wage slave buys a fresh pack of cyber stims.

You check your watch. Its 2pm.
