• What Your Accountant Isn’t Telling You..
    Sep 12 2024
How many times do you talk to your accountant? Just during tax time, right? And then maybe once or twice more throughout the year when you’re making a big business decision. But, you should be talking to your accountant every quarter at the very least… if you want to fast track your Salon’s growth! I’m going to say it again, your number will always tell you what to do and what leavers you can pull to grow. If you’re not looking at your numbers on a regular basis, how are you going to know if you can afford to give your stylist a pay rise? Do you need to increase your prices? Should you be changing your products? What SHOULD you do next to move the needle in your business? These are decisions that shouldn’t be limited to once or twice a year… you should be reviewing and evaluating all the time! I’m excited to share this conversation I had with the wonderful Jolene and Kristi from the Summa Collective about looking at the numbers to grow your Salon. Here is What Your Accountant Isn’t Telling You.. Here is why you should listen to the full episode:
    1. Learn why you need to know your numbers
    2. Understand how to use the numbers to grow
    3. Know how often to meet with your accountant

  • Should I Fire Her?
    Sep 7 2024
Jenny is disengaged, disruptive, she’s not hitting her KPIs and the team are starting to notice… should I fire her? When a team member is negatively impacting the energy and motivation of the team, you need to take action to get everyone back on track. But you can be left wondering if something is wrong. You talk to her but she keeps saying everything is ok… what do you do? Can you afford to let her go? Can you afford to keep her even though her attitude is affecting the rest of the team? It all can be resolved if you approach the conversation of ‘how are you?’, differently to how you normally do! As people, we often tell people that everything is fine… even if it isn’t. We don’t want to be a burden on people, or sometimes we don’t even realise our attitude has changed! As a Salon CEO and the leader, it’s up to YOU to be curious and dig a little deeper when someone keeps saying that everything is ok… it may even save you from firing your best stylist. Salon Mastery Boardroom Coach, Joel and I are sharing a problem an Owner in The Boardroom was facing when it came to her best stylist… Here is Should I Fire Her? Here is why you should listen to the full episode:
    1. Learn when it’s time to be curious
    2. Understand how to chat with a disengaged team member
    3. Know how to save your best stylist

  • Does Your Salon Actually Need Paid Ads?
    Aug 31 2024
You're a Salon, not a charity… The world of marketing can feel overwhelming… you have emails, newsletters, the ever growing list of social media platforms and of course, ads! But is the time and money you’re spending on these marketing channels really worth it? Or are you pouring money down the drain? Marketing channels are there to market your Salon, but if they’re not bringing clients into your door (that rebook too!)… you may need to re-evaluate your marketing strategy. Because there’s no value to your business in spending hundreds and thousands of dollars a month on marketing if none of those new clients ever rebook! Otherwise, you’re basically donating money to Meta like it’s a charity. I’m excited to share this conversation I had with Belinda, the Ads expert who knows how to create ads that convert clicks into long term clients. Here is Does Your Salon Actually Need Paid Ads? Here is why you should listen to the full episode:
    1. Learn what makes an effective ad
    2. Understand what you’re currently getting wrong
    3. Know how to turn clicks into long term clients

  • When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member?
    Aug 24 2024
If your Salon hits a growth ceiling… It's because of you! Clients are coming in, your team is busy, you’re finally profitable but you’re not sure if you should jump and recruit a new team member before you need it. If you recruit team members too early, your growth might slow down and suddenly you can’t afford to pay them OR you recruit too late and your team feels overwhelmed and overworked… whilst trying to train someone new. It takes 3 months to recruit and train someone… So, in a perfect world, you would recruit someone 3 months before you need them. And I know what you’re thinking… “Larissa, I can’t see the future!”. But actually, you can… sort of. Your numbers will always tell you what to do. If you’re wanting to grow in 2024 and beyond, you need to be 3 steps (or 3 months ahead). I’m sharing a recruitment roadblock that an owner in the Salon Mastery Program overcame before she went away on holiday for 3 weeks! This is: When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member? What would you do if your team was offered a pay rise at another Salon? During a time where it feels like everyone is leaving to go solo… retaining your team is crucial. But not all Salon Owners post a job ad that says ‘We’re Hiring’. Instead, they choose to directly contact stylists and therapists to offer them a job! Do you let your team go? Try to convince them to stay? Or offer them a pay rise even if you can’t afford it? I have a different idea… there is a way to hold onto your team without giving them a pay rise before you’re ready! Salon Mastery Boardroom Coach, Joel and I are breaking down a situation that recently happened to one of our Salon Mastery Owners! Aug 3 2024
Your clients are secretly unhappy… How many times have YOU gone to a Salon and thought “they just don’t do it exactly how I like!”? So you go home and you re-curl your hair, maybe give it another trim, scrub your brows trying to take some of the tint off… Your clients are doing the exact same thing when they leave your Salon! And yes, at the end of the appointment we ask what they think and they say they love it and it’s perfect, but have you ever thought they just don’t want to offend you? That maybe they’re hoping if they can nudge you each appointment to go a little bit lighter or a little bit shorter that one day you will ACTUALLY give them what they want? 9 out of your 10 clients are training you! Which means as an industry, we need to get better at consultations.
